Wow, some nice pacific traffic that we won't need to travel to LAX to see! I liked the 767s more but this will be nice too!

Yeah, it's a fairly long flight, actually almost 11 hours I think. Some people don't realize how far out into the Pacific it is. It may even be longer.

It's 9hr 50min to JFK, 11 hrs return.

Thanks guys. That's a long time flying though it is worth it. My wife and I did it 28 years ago for our honeymoon. We left the 34st Heliport on a NY Helicopter Sikorsky S58T to JFK then
transfered there to our flight which stopped in SFO. We didnt change planes just stopped to refuel (I Guess, oh so long ago) then off to Honolulu. When we stopped we were able to leave
the plane and hang in the Terminal. Coming back we did the same at LAX.

The great circle passes almost directly over San Francisco. It's 2586mi JFK-SFO and 2399 SFO-HNL. This isn't all that surprising; CO does decently well with their EWR-HNL flight, there's cruise traffic to help it out, and Hawaiian's got 5 330s on the property with another 11 to go, so they have to send those planes somewhere. That early in the morning, I guess they have their choice of T1 or T4 - does T1 even have the ability to take domestic flights, or do arrivals and baggage claim flow directly into Customs with no opportunity to bypass?

I've been waiting for this ever since Hawaiian announced they were purchasing the A-330's

This is an awesome livery and it looks especially good on the A330. To me, even bad schemes look best on the A-330. (Same with the 757).

This is also not the first time the "Hula Girls" have come to JFK. In the late 80's, I remember seeing Lockheed Electras with the titles "Hawaiin Air Cargo" parked at the airport. I believe they were being flown by Zantop airlines at the time.

Is there a possibility that this will start out as a trial run and if it is profitable for them, expand to 2+ flights daily as they get more of their A330's delivered?

Now if we could only get Alaska Airlines over to this side of the Hudson!!

Awesome to see another Pac livery since we no longer have Air Tahiti! Nice!

Also nice to see JFK-HNL re-established. I last flew that route on a CO DC-10 in 1986. Back then, it did JFK-HNL-SYD and back. I'll never forget getting off that jet after 9 hours and asking my mom, "What do you mean the other passengers are staying on for another 8 hours??!"

And not for nothing, that pricing is tempting.....

What is their inflight service like compared to AA's JFK-LAX-HNL route?

I don't think they look at it as a "trial run", but if it's that profitable I'm sure they'd expand it.

Just saw the first TV commercial promoting this service, where else but on the Hawaii Five-O TV show. (FYI, I was channel surfing:rolleyes:) Has a real nice air-to-air shot of an A330.

According to this thread (http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/5365740/) and an announcement today, Hawaiian will be code-sharing with Jet Blue and using Terminal 5 at JFK.

Question is, when do I see a Hawaiian plane at JFK? Any dates?

EDIT: Looks like June 5th is first available flight... $536 per person round trip.. not bad (to Lanai)

More here: http://nycaviation.com/2012/01/hawaiian-airlines-to-use-jetblues-new-york-terminal-through-new-partnership/

Definitely most complex partnership JetBlue has done so far.

PhilDernerJr

This also adds to the rumors of Hawaiian's plan to fly to Europe eventually, using JFK as their jump-off point. People were asking "Does Hawaiian really have the vacation demand for that?" but by teaming up with JetBlue, that will feed all the Euro traffic they need.

Reaching a little here, but if successful, I'd bet Jetblue would buy-out Hawaiian, or Hawaiian would rename and re-brand.

Hawaii is unique in that you are in the middle of the Pacific, unique in many ways both natural and social and it is protected by the U.S. Navy...!! yes, EVERYONE wants to go to Hawaii

Great to see my favorite airline expanding her wings to the east coast!
From what I heard they will be using T5 with their new partnership with Jetblue. (Am I correct??)
Those 330s are doing good for Hawaiian...will be sad when the 767s exit service though...

You are correct. The Hawaiian A330s will be sharing gates at T5 next to JetBlues little A320s

Two things:

1. I'd love to see them try it, but the odds of success for Hawaiian flying to London are slim given the immense competition. And if they ever planned on flying to multiple cities in Europe, the imploding EU economy should immediately shut down that idea. They'd be better off using the planes in Asia.

2. JetBlue's deal with AA covers all the cities in Europe where Hawaiian would consider flying. That doesn't necessarily rule out the ability of JetBlue to have deals with more than one airline on identical routes, but who knows.

I am sorry but there is some amusing speculation in this thread. That's all I am going to say but HAL will operate from T5, one gate, JetBlue CM's handling it. Quite exciting.

And.... It is not a code share. It is a simple interline agreement.

Matt Molnar

It is a codeshare. Hawaiian's code will be placed on JetBlue-operated flights.

hiss srq

Matt, hate to sound like a douche but... Here goes..... JetBlue does not operate in a code share enviorment with ANY carriers. The only codeshare JetBlue has ever taken part in was a marketing code share with cape air. All other agreements are interline agreements. There are no LH, EI, EY, SA, EK or otherwise flight numbers or code share numbers sold, published or operated in the T5 or Boston C complex. Strictly interline which gives you the ability to transfer bags directly and use the same itenarary but different ticket stock on other airlines. I hope that clears it up. http://www.jetblue.com/flying-on-jetblue/travel-agents/codeshare.asp

It may not be London, but JetBlue surprised many with the level of competition that they brought over the years domestically against carriers like AA....you don't think they could do it internationally too? I know I would certainly choose Jetblue over AA at ANY chance I had. And it may not be London (at least not Heathrow) but I'd be there are routes that would be very worth their while.

I just refuse to believe that there is not more than meets the eye int he intent of either Hawaiian or JetBlue. Maybe not definite plans right now, but the this arrangement i brewing for some future business opportunities.

Why would you go to inwood when they are on the 4's?

I had my Mom with me, she actually wanted to see the first flight but she would never be able to traverse the grounds at Bayswater.

And I got totally screwed on the departure shot, I missed it by 3 minutes. They were still departing off 4L until the last minute, I was all set up by Kas Carpet then tuned to ATIS and heard they changed, I did 80 on the Belt but still missed it
