Found this press release on the Airbus website this morning. Hopefully they use one of these for service to JFK.

I'll believe it when I see it :-) I love this line:

" signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) " LOL... that's like me saying to my Chevy dealer "I hope you understand I may desire to buy one of your cars" hahaha

Excellent point Manny. One thing that struck me about the article is that they did not even make mention of a possible entry to service date, just that they were ready to offer it. Transaero is currently stable, but for them that's a lot to shell out for 4 birds.

According to this article in Aviation Week (http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story.jsp?id=news/awx/2011/10/28/awx_10_28_2011_p0-387705.xml&channel=comm), deliveries are due to start in the fourth quarter of 2015.

Geesh, anythign can happen between now and 2015... like the 747-8i being wildly more effective than an A380. Or traffic patterns or competition would decline to a point where it would not be economically doable. I bet Aeroflot has a better chance to do it being the larger airline but even they only fly an A330 or B767 to NY. Hey, I really love the A380 in its own right, but the economics of running a newer 747 seem to be more practical than a brand new aircraft. Just my uneducated, unintelligent observation.

I did really hope that FedEx would buy the A380 but sadly, it did not take the offer.

Now, how about and AA or DL A380 lol... that would be fun. Will American even get any 747s ever again?

From this story (http://en.ria.ru/business/20111028/168195383.html), it sounds as if they are also planning to purchase the 747-8 as well, as they plan to replace their 743s between 2015 and 2020. Yes, anything can happen in that time, but with the lead time required to purchase aircraft like this, you need to start the process several years in advance. If you ordered a 787 from Boeing today, do you think you would see it before 2015?
