My wife made the mistake of discovering that all of South Africa's air force museums are free admission and open practically all of the time. Once we had our travel plans I discovered we would be passing by three. Unfortunately we only had time to stop by one, in Port Elizabeth. The museum in Port Elizabeth is not particularly large, and from what I can gather has their hands on a number of items that Pretoria and Cape Town didn't want or couldn't fit. It is seriously decked out in various accessory items like vintage uniforms, photos, log books, etc. Their main building is large enough to house two or three choppers and three jets...all of which are in good shape but really really packed in. They also maintain a much more spacious hangar just across the way which houses a number of active restorations projects from a few T6's to a Trojan, an Airspeed Oxford to a Puma. I used to really not care for these little museums but increasingly I find myself drawn more and more to them.
Some selections:
I don't remember the name of this but it was cool:
