Hey guys,

I know its a weekday, but just curious as to who is going to be out spotting on the 9th. I've put in for a vacation day from work to head down to catch the inaugural arrival of the Korean whale jet. I'm most likely heading down after work on Monday the 8th so I'll be catching some flights in the last rays of light on Monday and will be around all day from sunrise til sunset on Tuesday. Of course, this is weather permitting. If the forecast looks like a washout, I'm going to cancel my vacation day and save the trip for the following weekend.

I plan on catching arrivals in the AM on Tuesday until the Korean flight comes in and then assuming the setup allows it, head to HoBe to catch KK departures until the Korean leaves. This is just preliminary ideas, but will ultimately head to whereever the pattern will allow for the best shots.

Looks like I should be free, and if so, I'll be out.

I will most definitely be there, unless, of course, the weather becomes über-crappy.

Regrettably, I cannot make it. I'm having my chocolate starfish bleached that day.

Can I watch?

Besides, Kenny, If I saw you at this event, I will call Airbus to have you represent their next A380 delivery!

Even as big of a B747 fan I am, I (and obviously Lrusso) will probably still come out for this big blue whale.

I've been keeping an eye on the weather and right now its not looking all that favorable. But, then again, its still a week away. Hopefully the weather forecast will change and it will be a nice clear sunny day. I am definitely looking forward to some good weather and to come down again and hang out with the crew and possibly meet some new faces.

If I don't make it down on Mon/Tues, I will most likely 100% be down Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun.

Every trip to NY and back costs over $50 for me between tolls and gas. It really has gotten ridiculous that it costs $13 just to cross the damn Verrazano(and they have the nerve to put up signs saying taking pictures of it are prohibited).

I came for the 1st AF and the 1st Lufty A380's but will have to miss this one, so have fun guys, hope the weather works out.

That's standard for all the major TBTA crossings without EZ-Pass. Most charge $6.50 each way, the VZ charges $13 one way, $9.60 with EZ-Pass.

I guess my point is, that's literally highway robbery. No way it should cost that much unless, like down here in Philly, bridge tolls go towards more than just upkeep costs (like towards pet projects and the pockets of Port board execs). Have you seen the Verrazano lately? The paint is peeling right off it. If you're going to charge that much money, at least paint the damn thing.

Same reason I don't go to the movies anymore. No way should it cost over $10 to see a damn movie.

But that is straying from this thread. Carry on, gentlemen.

I wish it was that cheap for me to come down to JFK from where I am in CT. Right now it cost me about $85 just for gas in my truck and then another $15 for tolls.

And I do agree about the toll costs. 6.50 each way on the Whitestone and its always under construction, but never seems to improve.

The demand is SO HIGH and the resources so little, it did not matter if it were a one lane rickety bridge, you could not boycott it either. SOMEONE will take it, at any price and condition. That's the sad part. There is no competition so it can be as high as you like.

The VZ, think about it... your choice is to fight the traffic on the Gowanus, then the BQE to the Manhattan Bridge, Canal St. to the Holland Tunnel (oh what fun) then loop all the way around the harbor to Elizabeth, past EWR (well that part is worth it) and then head down to where you would end up by taking the shortcut VZ to Outerbridge crossing. I know [I] put lots of value on that $13 if I had to make that choice.

Alfred Marshall would use it today as the best example of supply and demand ;-)

Supply and demand...no one WANTS to go to NJ, which is why you'll never pay a toll to ENTER the state. I live here, and I endorse this message.

In the case of the Verrazano you are paying $13 to get into Jersey. If I had to bet I would say that most people using it don't have Staten Island as their final destination and are heading on to the Goethals or the Outerbridge.

What time is this bird due in? Actually don't think I've ever seen Korean Air come in (maybe once while at Burger King?).

I believe its scheduled for an 11:55am arrival. I'm actually hoping that she gets in earlier than that. Then she departs at 2:00.

Unfortunately, I won't be to able to join some of you. I'll be away on another work related trip (3 down and about 4 or 5 more trips to go). I'm sure it will be sweet to see this big blue whale, can't wait to catch it when I return.

Unfortunately, my ineptitude in taking photographs is only matched by ineptitude in figuring out which runway any particular aircraft might be arriving on. I was really hoping to get a spare hour or two to at least capture a blurry pic of KAL's A380 coming in today.

Any predictions as to which runway KE 81 will be arriving on? I understand this varies with weather conditions as well as the whims and moods of the powers that be at JFK, so if someone has the means and the ability to decipher the scanner traffic, would they be so kind as to post here what runway will be used as the big blue beast approaches? Thank you so much in advance.

I am planning to sneak away for a few minutes and park myself somewhere in New Hyde Park or Westbury. As this was also my plan with the Lufthansa A-380 inaugural, you can count on it being any runway but 22L.

Right now they're using 4R for arrivals.. she'll be in in under 20 minutes.

Lrusso and I decided to skip this one. We'll be out for the first 748 for sure.

You were probably better off. Sun at that time would have been right over the top and harsh. She really delayed on her departure?

Nick, you are right but I rather have more photons bouncing off the water than not :-( It was THICK cover so the sun would not have much power at all. I don;t mind a thin layer but... in any case. I would have stayed for her departure but as I knew they would, they started at 30 minute delay ... they just left!! LOL 3:49 departure... !!
