Ok, on of the few rare times I fly delta, and it is a complete nightmare at jfk. Much prefer LGA. Went early, 2 hours ahead pick up my ticket. Then waited on line at security. With 40 min to the flight, I ask the delta agents watching the line, if I am going to make my flight, been waiting for over an hour. She said I hope so, but you just need to wait on the regular line. Then when I saw the screen that the flight was boarding, I ask another agent. And the agent said there is nothing I can do, you on the priorioty line already. Finally a red jacket came, and had all the people that were about to miss their flights because of the TSA line move to a different entrance. Needless to say by the time I got to the gate, they had close the flight.

Went to rebook my flight. And the rebooking manager there apologized and I explain to him, that I was waiting patiently on line, did not complain when earlier flight passenger were within 40 min of their flight was put to the head of the lines. But when I was closing in to the 40min point. No red jacket was around, and the regular agents did not care at all. They manager told me that that is not Delta's policy. When you are on line that long and getting really close to the flight, delta is suppose to escort you to the front of the tsa line. And that if I encounter that issue again, get the agents name that told you nothing can be done. And report it to the gate or the rebooking counter.

Granted it is TSA's inability to handle the job that cause most the delays at their terminal. But they really need to get involved when people are going to miss their flights. There were 20 people that missed their flight because of the TSA, and it was partly delta's fault for pushing passengers ahead of us, and not getting involved till it was to late. If they got proactive on their lines, and route people to where they suppose to. It is not that hard to get people to their flight when they show up 2 early. To have to go 3 hours ahead of time is just ridiculous to make sure you get though the TSA lines.

Now will delta figure out how to run the terminal, especially since they use jfk as a hub now. I asked my friend that flies for delta, and she said in her opinion everyone at jfk delta terminal should be fire, they do not do a good job getting passengers to where they need to go. Delta's JFK terminal is hands down one of the worst terminals in the country.

I much prefer jet blue and united/conti (more conti side) when flying domestically. Delta at JFK is a no star experience more like having to go to get a root canal experience . Love Terminal 1, nice easy, no stress, longest I every waited was 25 min on the tsa line.

The Delta staff at JFK are not generally of the best caliber. There for a small check and the flight bennies, they can care less about you paying their wages. I avoid Delta at JFK like that drunk fat chick following you around a party.

I do not normally fly delta, but that was the only flight that fit. They are not bad at LGA. But JFK is not where you want to fly delta out of.

I usually fly out of JFK on Delta on my trips to DTW in the past few years, and it really is terrible there. However, I have never waited on a security line more than 5 minutes. Were you at terminal 2 or 3? The "normal" passengers have to enter through terminal 3, even if their flight is in terminal 2. The terminal 3 TSA area only has 1 metal detector and is a very small area, but I have never seen it back up. It is the walk all the way back to terminal 2 that takes forever.
I don't know how the screening area over at terminal 2 is, but is actually usually seems busier than 3.

It was at T3, they moved us to T2 to get by faster at the end. That terminal is just horrible.

The amenities and security lines at LGA are not much better, but every time I've flown out of there, at least there have been helpful red coats looking for people who need to cut the TSA line to catch their flight.

Fully agree here.

I flew Delta JFK LAX in January - waited around 2 hours at security in line- which was quite alot considering it was 30-45 mins at LAX TBIT flying home to Australia!

Amenities in that delta terminal are worse then the lcc terminals I've seen- gates didn't have seating to cope with pax- I sat 4 gates away and noticed pax for flights were all sitting at different gates from their Own gate of departure due to lack of space.

I wouldve thought there would be a premium Line for the valued ff and J pax etc. I never found one!

I think this photo sums it up; taken during the evening rush at JFK T3. Info booth not manned. Kinda ironic, isn't it?

Maybe the agent was off helping a passenger...did you sit around waiting to see if someone showed up? Look, I don't have a dog in this fight, but one random photo doesn't prove or disprove anything about their service.

Had a connecting flight at gate 17 right across. Was camped out near there for about an hour and a half waiting for my delayed flight. No agents in site other than boarding flights at the gates. This counter is regularly unattended.
