Mounds + Panera from today...

Could anyone tell me how I can find out the tail number of this Evergreen? Took off at 10:13am if that helps...

The Evergreen looks to be N490EV based off the number painted on the nose gear doors.

Also, great shots from JFK today!

Rom... keep this site bookmarked

www.airfleets.net (http://www.airfleets.net)

Then search for the carrier... Click on the actual carrier from the results (you may get more than one hit and watch out for Pop Up Ads... ) Once the carrier's list comes up, click on the general aircraft in question. If you;re unsure of the series, just click on the top of the list for the generic which gives the hwole list. With some carriers, you can also see the airline's numbering system and you should be able to figure it out.

You can also try ACARS here

www.acarsd.org (http://www.acarsd.org)

search for time, airport, etc. It also accepts the wildcard character "%" as a placeholder for unknown characters.

Finally, PASSUR is invaluable

http://www4.passur.com/jfk.html

Plug in a time and date and hit play and let er rip. It can be valuable in figuring out a flight and aircraft type or time, destination etc.

Eric nice catches for the specials visitors and Rom looks like you had a great day too. On the way home from work I passed by the triple hanger and saw a C-17 sitting there. Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera with me (darn!).

Yeah Mark told me that... he feels there may be an UN special meeting or something. Who knows... all I know is many more specials are coming in since I am not out there spotting. ha!

So the C-17, no one got a shot of it? Mark had his camera at home (the insanity)

Im thinking along the lines of the UN as well, with all thats going down in Egypt, and now Libya. May explain the c17 and other special jets.

NIce photos! What time of day were you guys out there? Was it crazy cold?!

My thinking is the same regarding the special visitors. With all the stuff that is happening in Libya, I think there may be a special UN session. I wouldn't be surprised if more unexpected visitors show up tomorrow as well.

Thanks :) I was at the Mounds from 10-ish to 2pm, then at Panera from 2:30 to 4-ish. The Mounds were very cold, even inside the car (I turn off the engine... I'm your environmentally friendly kinda guy). The funny thing is that is was 22° when I left, and it was 35° at Panera half an hour later.

I am not really against theenvironment but I turn off the engine because it affects the photos :-) and because I am cheap and want to save gas.

Even after you turn off your car, there are hot currents spewing all around your car for about 30 minutes or more. Windy cold days of course dissipate it faster but on a sunny day, there will always be some around.

You notice it most when you look at shadows of it against the frame of your window for example if facing the sun. That's why I try to get out of the car for shots as much as possible and move away from the body of the car just a bit. IF I am really lazy and the catch is not THAT important, I will stay in the car.

Interesting, Manny. I have never thought of that, and you actually make a point.

I admit that I was a lazy bum today and most of my shots from the Mounds were taken through the open sunroof! No matter how much I knew it was wrong, I just couldn't step foot outside, it was very cold! Plus, the newbie that I am is still a little chicken and I try not to draw attention... from the folks around mostly, because the cops are cool and do their job.

Our hobby is a hard one! But even if my shots of the day leave me a bit disappointed, I had a blast... And I was practicing, which is what I should stick with for now :)

Good advice Manny, I will look at my car's hood twice from now on

The cold windy morning I spent at the mounds I would have my iPhone plugged into the stereo in my truck so I could hear LiveATC.net and hear what was on approach. I would check the print-out of scheduled arrivals and step out of the truck for probably 20-30 mins at a time and make my way to the top of the mounds. After getting the shots I wanted I would head back to the truck and warm back up while listening to the air traffic communications and would jump out quickly again if I heard something of interest coming in. So all in all I would say that I'd be out of the truck for 20-30 mins and then spend 10 mins warming up and that went on all morning.

Then when I headed over to Panera when they switched to the 31s I parked nose in to the snow bank there at the fence so I could see when something was approaching and get out to snap of my pics only when they got close enough and then dive back into the truck.
