As fuel prices have been on the rise, DL's fleet is likely to be cut. DL plans to retire about 200 aircraft..

DELTA Mainline:
All DC-9s are to go, some older A320s,MD-88s, and some older 752s might be on the list as well..

DELTA CONNECTION:
Comair CRJ100/200
Meseba SF-340B
all to go..

DL wont be able to afford keeping these older birds around since some of there fleet are a bit older, their oldest A320/MD80s are about 20 years old, Their oldest 757s are about 25 or 26 years old, DC-51s, 30 plus old.. Its that time.. They do plan to add more MD-90s to the fleet from what im hearing..

Still it's sad to see, Delta is one of the best Airlines out there, I hope they won't lose their customers.

depends who you ask. my parents and sister agree their customer service sucks. as recently as 2 weeks ago they've flown them and regretted it.

on a side note, some of the MES SF-340Ds are coming to US starting in march. you'll see them at LGA.

I didnt think US would even get anymore Saabs but thats good to hear that.. DL had already made plans last year to retire all the remaining Saabs.. Same for the older CRJs. With more MD-90s coming to DL's fleet, they are perfect to replace those old diesel 9s, and a few Mad dogs..

Can you educate me on the 340D? I thought the 340B was the end of the line of Saab aircraft.

Also I can not image what would be cheaper to fly than the Saab's, the routes they fly around here do not seem to support a larger aircraft.

Yeah, there was never a 340D.. Only 340A, 340B and 2000!

That makes me wonder, if Delta's service isn't all that great why are they as popular as they seem.

The Mesaba Saab's are among the newest 340's built. they are 340B plus models. I believe the plus added some extra MTOW (they need it) upgraded props, and an upgraded cabin ammenties such as sidewalls, PSU's, overhead bin ets. Mesaba's US Express operation will be based at and center around LGA flying, which will include a MTC and crew base here.

This is even more sad because Delta is the reason I like MD-80s

Believe it or not some very few of the 117 MD-88s they have are still newer, I think the last delivery of thier MD88s were 94 or 95.. I could be wrong.. they are still young birds regardless, but majorly a major workhorse in the fleet..
