Do the airlines have to still be operating and just not flying to JFK anymore? For example, Pan Am comes to mind.

I loved seeing Laker DC-10s. I even built a 1/144 scale model of it when I was a kid. Gotta check and see if I still have it. The Laker 'Skytrain' was awesome!

Eastern had their own terminal at JFK which stood where Terminal 1 now stands. Terminal 2 was originally used by Northeast Northwest and Braniff if I am not mistaken, as well as Western.
Also don't confuse Northeast with Northeastern, the LCC which flew DC8's and early A300's. Northeast was the home of the Yellowbird.

Champion Air 727s (03-04).Loftleider Cl-44s (early to late 60s), Eastern flew everything from the Electra to the 747 at JFK,Modern Air CV990s(mid 70's,that was a Modern Air990 at the climax of Dog Day Afternoon filmed at JFK in '75),ONA DC8s,DC-10s, bye bye in the late 70's,Airlift,707,DC8,and 727,always dirty, through the mid 70's, Pilgrim ,Twin Otters, the freight outfit flew CL44s not Britannia's they are close cousins, an Argentine outfit AER,flew CL44s into the early 80's at JFK, Air Guyana had the last scheduled pax 707 into JFK in the 80's,and the only scheduled TU154,TMA Lebanon.707s,and 747s, freight, about all of the exotic ones I can think of right now, more will surely come to mind. Champion's 727s were the last scheduled pax 727s into Kennedy, my eyes misted up the first time I flew the Canarsie approach and flew over my old sod South Ozone Park in the 727,talk about dreams coming true !!!

Reading this thread make one a little teary eyed and reminiscing on the "good old days".
The reality of time passing really comes when you realize that Eastern Airlines ceased operations 20 years ago yesterday (January 18, 1991).

Thanks for the memories. I went out with my friend to JFK every Sat. in the days before high security to see most of the airlines mentioned. We wandered around JFK all day standing by terminal fences and sitting by runways. The best spots were at the far end of Rwy 31R by "WW"/"A" where aircraft turned-off the runway and Rockaway Blvd by 22L. And yes, the PanAm Roof was the creme de la Creme for spotters.

i remember watching Pan Am cargo 747s launching late night in the 70's,(wee hours),on Rockaway by the 22's,during my misspent youth, they used to light the vertical stab ,and that beautiful PAA blue ball would stand out along with CARGO in black lettering.then that wonderful bumblebee hum of those JT9Ds at max power, then the sight of the beacon, and twin tail lights levitating near the far end, climbing into that dark night ,heading to Europe,Asia,Africa, ports exotic and unknown, and my hopes,my dreams rode with them.
