anyone know why QFA uses both RR RB211s and GE CF6s on thier 747s? the -100s, the -200s. -300s and SPs were all RB211s while the -400s are a mix of RRs and GEs. were some of the airplanes bought secondhand? just seems strange they'd order different engines on new-build airplanes.

Their regular -400 use the RR, the ER's is the GE, The GE's is the only option on the 400ER

The 747-400ER's/ERF's were offered with either Pratt's or GE's . The RB211's were not offered on the ER/ERF's. Qantas did operate some regular -400's with CF6's they obtained from Malaysia. I believe they were parked in 2009.
