Brandon & I spent the day at ANC getting some good action. Very cold day, and various body appendages turned various unhealthy colors through the day.

These shots dedicated to Brandon in fact, who's friendship and all around good guy-ness has not been lost on me this year.

One dirty, dirty stop. Who would've thought heat haze would've become a factor on a 17 degree day?

Glad to see these guys once before they move to Elmendorf

My favorite shot so far of the day, and contender for one of my favorites of the year:

I definitely don't envy the temperatures ya'll endured (Brandon actually couldn't go more than 30 min today in LA without talking about various color his hands were/how cold his feet were with 3 layers of socks/etc) but I do envy the crisp air and great light it looks like ya'll had. Great shots!

Thanks Jeremy! I do really appreciate it, honestly if it wasn't for you taking me under your wing as you have this last year I don't think I would be anywhere near where I am today and for that I will be forever thankful. It has been from the help of you and Keith that I have any of the skill that I have to this day and continue to try to improve on more and more.

Here is what I have so far, only one shot cause I was down in LAX today, but will get to some more later this week!
Although not as "exciting" as my Asiana shot this one to me is better and contending with shot of the year for me. Of course it is no secret that I love AS to death and more so that might also have something to do with it-

Maybe next year I'll end up in PANC maybe for a day or two of spotting. I almost ALMOST have the wife convinced. However, she wants to tag along with kid for a little vacation. So that cuts down my spotting... but a day of spotting is worth more than NO spotting at all!

 Thats cause they are what seems to come out the most crisp w/out getting to compressed in some factors, well depending on your lens/setup

Also photobucket resized all to 1023, when I upload to flickr I'll post links to the full sizes.

Ah yes 482. The last Aero Union Corporation converted freighter in our fleet. We will be pretty busy through ANC now as cargo peak is getting under way. A note for everyone here and you ANC guys. "Strikebird" 485 is currently operating UPS, ANC-SDF. 485 is approaching 29,000 cycles and through the vine a D check is approaching soon. Will most likely see this bird retired sometime 2011 as 33,000 cycles this bird must cease operations. Other EIA bird shown is 488.

485 was there on the 5th. 490 was AOG in ANC and 482, 486 did their normal fuel n go through ANC.

Finally getting some consistent pans:

Not a very exciting shot from an artistic perspective but DAMN! This is easily my catch of the year and a very big check mark off my spotters list. I really hope this isn't the last time I see this bird.

Obsessed yes!! but my bank account does not support my obsession LOL. Kid in private school does not help!

BTW, Brandon, the only reason your pans are working up there is because you're frozen stiff. Once you thaw in LA your panning will go back to bad

Just kidding of course! That last set is just super... I am going to go up but the question is when. I ran out of days off this year so no good until next January. But by then, cargo rush will be over unfortunately!

ANC is a permanent cargo rush Manny! This was a slow day, since it was a Sunday there were very few FedEx / UPS and no Everetts and most other local carriers. Even still we saw near to 20 747's, around half a dozen triholers, the same in 737's...and that was 5 hours on a slow day.

Like Jeremy said that was a weak rush, mondays are much better. 4 FedEx Trip 7's generally.

Also here is the full size FedEx MD-11 shot-

Plus the summer has near 24 hours of light, so even if your family is with you. Send them to bed and head out for a little picture taking. I have noticed that there is heavies all throughout the night, though the most is between 10am and 3pm.

I have always wanted to do a 3 day trip there with coverage of all 24 hours during that time. (12am - 8am one day, 8 am - 4pm the next, 4pm - 12am the final day).

Count me in for a trip to ANC (as long as it doesn't conflict with my other travels in 2011).

I have never seen such gorgeous light on a C-130 in my short time of spotting! Just a powerful shot of this classic powerful bird!-

This was one of the main reasons I decided to take a sunday trip up to ANC instead of my normal Monday one and the fact that Jeremy could only go on sunday. I wanted this Emirates Sky Cargo Bird so bad. And now I have it in the collection! You know snow is just like sand, but a little wetter is all.

The framing of the C-130 and the 4 Alaska tails behind it is awesome... helps that the color of that plane is so contrasty to.

I also want to catch the Emirates SkyCargo pretty badly but unfortunately all I have so far is this :-)
