That is awesome that you were able to get from Inwood Park back to JFK to see it taxi in. Here are a few images I took today as well. Didn't hang around long.......just a couple of hours.

Epic...........what else can one say.

Mark..........what shutter speed were you using for some of your panning shots to achieve the blur? 1/100 or less given the speed of the landing???

Mark (Zee) his EXIF is intact... you can see the gory details if you use an EXIF reader... you do have Opanda installed don't you?

Actually, due to the fact that I only had one chance to shoot each aircraft I didn't risk panning. Most of the motion blur in this set was done artificially in PS.

However, when I went in November and they were using 13L, I had more opportunities, so I practiced actual panning then. Shutter speed for panning depends on the speed of the subject, but for my 13L touchdown shots I used anywhere from 1/60 to 1/125 sec. For example, this was with 1/100:

Also, the shot of the Emirates moving was over an hour after they touched down. It wasn't taxiing, just being repositioned.

Yeah..........I have Opanda..............just too lazy. Plus I thought it might help others that might want to try panning, and gives them a starting point. Yadda yadda yadda.

Ha! Yeah, I want to go to the 1/15th sec. club with planes. Unfortunately with the size of the planes, it may not work out as well. They are moving two dimensionally up down left right and inevitably the front or the back or the middle will be blurred. If you stand far back enough you can catch some nice blurs but not as low as I would love to go!

These are from this last September when I dared to step down from 1/30th to 1/15th .. all hand-held panning. I tried with a monopod and failed badly. I want to try it with a Wimberly head on a tripod as it may be easier to pan with support them.
