Don't feel bad... I lug around the heavy Nikkor 200-400mm f/4 because Nikon has not even given the 80-400mm AF-S :-( so you guys at least have a nice ultrasonic motor and it focuses fast. Is it L glass too? Well, there have been rumors of an updated 80-400mm lens from Nikon for years ... and we are still waiting.

Only thing I don;t like about the 100-400mm Canon is the push-pull design. Otherwise it is a highly reputable lens.

Got to play today with the Canon 800mm f/5.6 at PhotoPlus Expo... SWEEEET! lens... Nikon stopped aking their 800mm lens a while back which is too bad. Hopefully they will re-introduce it.

Cheers!

It is L glass. This one hasn't been updated since the ripe year of 1998. Glad to see Canon beating Nikon to the punch in one of their what I imagine is better selling lenses. I don't mind the push pull...got quite used to it actually and it was my workhorse lens for a long time until I got my 7D and discovered it couldn't hack it as well with the higher density sensors...though not everyone agrees with me on that.
In any case I would not want to lug the 200-400 around, I've held it a bit too...too heavy. My lens of choice would be the 300 f/2.8...a beauty. I take it to every airshow now.

Actually, Nikon Rumors reported recently that they filed a patent for an AF-S 80-400. So that too seems to be in the works, about time as well....for us D40x users especially...
