I would NEVER tout a photographer, and I will start by saying that it is a great shot. However, I am slightly confused as to how every shot I have ever submitted where the aircraft is a hair off center or very slightly back lit is rejected. However, this shot is not only accepted, but hailed photographer's choice. In my opinion, it seems like the back lit cloud is the subject in this shot as it is centered and dominant. The aircraft seems more of a distraction. Any words of wisdom? I would like to reiterate that I have no battle to pick with anyone, I just find this intriguing. Thanks!

It is their new and improved "artistic" category. It is a great shot, and much better than the "artistic" shot with a blurry aircraft passing over some landing lights, or the photo of an aircraft shadow on a field.
Maybe you should upload a photo of a cow - they always seemed to be quite popular on A.net :D

I didn't get that "blurry aircraft" shot either, but everyone loved it.

I appreciated the blurry aircraft landing light photo as a good commercial aviation / stock photo shot...but I do not understand their artistic category requirements and their extremely arbitrary requirements.
Don't be jealous when I get a Photographer's Choice...

As Moose said it's part of their "artistic" category. For which has no criteria for acceptance, other than, the screener either likes it or he doesnt.
The category started when one of the Anet screeners thought it was a great idea...and surprise, surprise his were the first few accepted under that mantra. Now don't get me wrong, they are very well done artistic shots (sans a few already mentioned) but they go completely against the grain of what Anet started out to be.
The lack of consistency for acceptance of those shots is absurd. In my humble opinion, those shots do not belong on Anet or JetPhotos, they go on your stock gallery somewhere, (Flickr, pbase, etc...).

I think that's an awesome shot that certainly deserves to be where it is. Its creative, bold, and a wonderful combination of nature and machine.
