Does the Airfrance 6/7 use a specific runway for its ops or do they follow whatever the configuration is?

Thanks in Advance

Think it's only restriction is it can't land 31R, so it will land 31L when they landing the 31s but it will 22L, 4R and 13L when the winds dictate.

How come it can't land on 31R, but it can land on 13L? The displaced threshold seems to be the same length on either end of the runway. And if it is different, I can't imagine a difference that small is significant enough to only allow ops in one-direction.

I was always under the impression it was a taxiway issue. Bridges J2 and J8 haven't been reconstructed for the A380 yet, so I thought they avoided 31R in order to shorten taxi times since they wouldn't be able to go around the horn and get to T1.

if I remember right, it has to do with the distance to static equipment at the end of 31R - the wing will hit static things when it turns off at the end of the runway.

Correct Mark - and if I recall, one of the upcoming airport projects is to relocate that static equipment in order to make 31R usable by the A380. Though our own Mark Medford can confirm or deny that...or disavow any association or knowledge of things JFK related

On the subject of viewing AFR 6/7. I got tricked and forgot that it doesn't come everyday. I went out last Tuesday to JFK but the flight was a Boeing 777. Imagine how many passengers also think they're flying on the A380 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Also, I believe the fare is the same. I wonder if ticket agents tell passengers they're flying on the B777.

When I went to Paris (enroute to Rome) on AF I knew that it was a B777 before-hand and figured the same coming back. Boy was I surprised and happy to see that big ol 380
sitting there when I arrived at the Gate at Charles DeGaulle. Also we didnt make the reservations, our Tour Company (ABC in NJ) did. Hell they basically did EVERYTHING for us.
Highly recommended (Plug plug).

The Air France A380 sometimes is a triple 7 on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, so you must check. I was fortunate that it passed-by my house on Thursday August 19 as she came down the Hudson River from Canada at high-altitude, flew over northern Jersey and then made the VOR 13L Approach. She usually flies over Long Island and arrives on Rwy 22L at JFK.

Thats the way we came in but instead of 13 we went back over LI over to the Sound then looped in to line up with 22.
