I am now engaged. Pretty wild stuff.
I had decided to do it today just because it was one of few days where Melanie and I would be able to spend some time without other people and go and do something. She wanted to buy a new camera and I decided to walk her to a close by park (Madison Square Park) that I love so she could test it out.
For two years or so I've been saying the phrase "So what do you think about us?" to her, implying wedding talk, over and over to mess with her, and she eventually started telling me to not say it unless I was seriously ready to get married. I never stopped and continued to piss her off with it.
So today at the park we were sitting there and I asked her "So what do you think?" and she said "About us? I wanna get married!!" I said "Eh" and she said with some 'tude "Will you stop saying that and joking around?" to which I said fine and pulled the ring out of my pocket as I got down on one knee. She had no idea and was speechless for a few seconds before agreeing.
A little irony is that in vague wedding planning chats we've had, we've wanted a certain restaurant to cater our wedding. With that, this park we were at has "sponsored" benches with a plate of a person or company that paid for the placement of that bench. I chose a bench from afar as we entered the park, when we got up to it, that bench was sponsored by the very restaurant that we want to cater our wedding! I had no idea in advance. We sat down and Mel aid "Wow, it's a sign",to which she didn't know how much of a sign since she would be engaged a few minutes later.
Ok, enough babbling from me. I had many different ideas on how I'd do it but went with a more conventional approach. Good times. :)
