Hi, all!

I'm going out to JFK on Saturday morning (around 9AM) to hopefully shoot some departures for Asia. I'm hoping they use 31L, if the KK intersection is long enough for the 747 and 777 heavies that often depart, so that I can go to Howard Beach. If they're departing on 04L, I'll go to Woodmere Park and shoot there. And, lastly, if they're departing 22R, since Bayswater is now closed, I'll shoot arrivals at Woodmere.

If anyone wants to join me, please feel free. I think Sergio might be coming out, and I'll be with another friend and my girlfriend.

I'd love to get to meet some more people, as I know very few of the NYC guys!

It's really too soon to tell for me, but there is a glimmer of hope that I'll be out for a while.

If they're using 31L ..... there is a good possiblilty I might show up at HoBe.

Also, Bayswater is open..
I thought its closure had been confirmed...but that's great news. If they're departing on the 22s in the morning, let's plan to head there! I just hope they don't split departures between 31L and either 22R or 04L. I want to be where all the Asian heavies will depart!

I don't know JFK ops nearly as well as other people, so, if someone could clarify what their preferred runway will be for morning long-haul departures (Cathay, JAL, Air China Cargo, TAM (2 flights), etc), that would be fantastic.

Hi, again, all!

I just did some research for tomorrow's outing, hoping to grab some more interest. Here are some things of note:

AM (departures) - China Air Cargo (to ORD), the usual NH and CX departures for NRT and HKG, respectively, and SA and EK later on in the morning.

PM (arrivals) - 2x Delta A330, Meridiana A330 (will this actually be a Meridiana aircraft, or is it one of the former Air One A330s, since the flight arrives from Milan?), Kalitta 74F (not very unusual at JFK, but the timing is). All the ones I just listed are between 12:30 and 2PM.

I hope to see people there! It looks like Bayswater will be the best bet in the morning, and then a switch to Woodmere around lunch-time to catch the arrivals.

Looks like a good chance for HoBe departure shots. Although with the planned wind shift, they could be launching off the 22's. Will have to listen to ATC Live while in the car.

It was good to get out this morning and get that nice breeze off the water at Bayswater! Nice meeting Bob M, and Antonis & Meghan, and always good to chat with you Mark. I just got home, and have to dump the cards, then take care of the payback. I'll try and post some shots tonight, if not tomorrow.

Ditto.....it was nice meeting Antonis, Meghan, and Bob. Always a pleasure to speak with you as well John. I didn't end up going to Woodmere.......I had a few things to do at home, but caught Air China on it's approach to 13L from the backyard. I'll post some photo's later on tonight. Right now, I might just head over to HoBe for some departures. Have a great 4th of July everyone!!!!!

Great to meet you guys! Woodmere was a blast. Got 2 DL 330-200s, the Kalitta 747-400F, BA OneWorld 747, and Delta's Habitat for Humanity 767-300.

I left around 2:15, and just barely missed QR, EK, and PIA. They were splitting arrivals to 22L and 13L (which is odd, since LGA was using 04 and 31).

Here are some (non-aviation) shots from today. I'll be editing late tonight and tomorrow morning and hope to have some shots up tomorrow afternoon!

Hey Tis, I see you caught my best side.
Well I got the house ready for tomorrow's get together with family, and was able to clean a few shots up before turning in...

It was a great morning at Bayswater, not too hot, and except for the FedEx DC10 & Southern Air B742, they kept all the interesting departures on 22R. Here's a few from today:

Avianca B763...this was lifting off as I was walking towards the water on my way in. Did a very quick lens change, snapped and hoped for the best, this was the first shot of the day. I was very lucky!

That's your backyard? Holy CRAP! I've been looking for a spot for 13L arrivals for years!

Incidentally, does anyone know how to use the quote feature without having to delete 90% of the post save for what you want?

Yeah........backyard with a 2.0 teleconverter attached to my 70-200mm lens. Most of the time the lighting can be harsh. Most of the 13L arrivals are typically eastbound arrivals (Jet Blue, American, Delta, United, etc.). I'm more in-line with 13R.

Jon if you panned your camera over to the left while the Eva and LH cargo were taking off you would have snapped a shot of me :)

Wow .......... those are fantastic captures! The Jet Blue is nothing short of awesome. Do I wish I could get access to the ramp like that.

Seems a little silly to get ramp access like that and not invite your closest buddies!!! :D

Great shots. I remember the one time I was fortunate enough to get airside at JFK. The best day of my life, I'm pretty sure.

Here are some of mine, edited and ready to get uploaded to one of "the" sites. Most are 1024 pixels across, but I have one 1600, and a couple of 1200s, since I can be more ambitious with my new gear than I was before.

Tommy, being you were "inside the fence" and were all over the place, maybe you can help me out. From Bayswater, I could see a very non-descript grey tail over near Bldg 77, or the old NW Cargo area. Couldn't be sure exactly form the distance. It appeared to have a small flag of some sort on the tail and nothing else. I tried getting a shot but the heat haze from that distance rendered the shot totally useless, even for trying to ID what it was. Did you get over to that side of the field, and can you shed some light on what the heck was there?

It was prob the all white...well dirty white that now looks grey ABX cargo 767...there wasn't any VIPs or anything special at JFK on Saturday. If fact the airport was rather void of planes, even the DHL area didn't have anything sitting.
