We all have stories, but sometimes a story sticks out and gives you butterfly's every time you thing of it. This is about the moments that when they cross your mind you smile the biggest smile and if fails in comparison to how you feel on the inside. I have had quite a few of these moments and want to hear about yours. This is not about every story, just the best. Post only one story a day and lets all feel the upcoming air show. Let others feel the joy that we all have had. From A Blue Angel parting my hair to a Mig doing a flyby in front of a thousand people but doing it only for me, I have had my share of moments but will only leave this thread today with one picture.

Being out in a boat in Pensacola Bay, Florida with no crowds, swimming in the water next to the boat and having the Blue Angels do an airshow and pass what seemed like 50 feet overhead!

My best moment was when I got to meet the Red Arrows and they allowed me to get up close to their planes.

This thread is really getting me pumped for airshow week.

The Red Arrows were fantastic people. But man were they crazy in the skies.

oh, forgot to mention... knowing ALL of team oracle and getting the chance to spend time with the team away from the airshow madness, being a welcome guest at their hangar and being one of the few folks allowed to actually pump gas into the biplane.

Many years ago when I still lived in Cape Town - the Red Arrows doing a show over the Cape Town Waterfront with Table Mountain in the background - a perfect day - an awesome show.

2007 Jones Beach Airshow

I am in the old control tower and the practice is about to begin, I need to go to work and I am crying on the inside as I am flying down the stairs of the old control tower hitting every third step. I get to the bottom and my friend Henny has the Jeep and I hop in. I yell to go or we will get stuck and that is when the rush hour traffic appeared. A Fokker pulls out right in front of us and cut us off! I wanted to flip them off but figured since everyone in the Fokkin airplane could kill me with their pinkie, I should let the best jump team in the world go first with no lip. Those guys were in this
(The only shot that was not from that experience)
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/Aviation/2009-Jones-Beach-Airshow/IMG4543/546720912_X8GNB-L.jpg

So then Ed Hamill pulls in front of me and I start to settle in realizing that I am now going to be late to work. I happen to see a few people pointing behind me and then I see Sean Tucker behind me putting on his chute, kicking me a smile
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/Aviation/2007-Jones-Beach-Airshow/IMG3981/160237374_dPLnN-L-1.jpg
and hop into his little red biplane
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/Aviation/2007-Jones-Beach-Airshow/IMG3993/160237508_2kNop-L-1.jpg

Starts up and YEP, CUTS OFF A NEW YORKER!
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/Aviation/2007-Jones-Beach-Airshow/IMG4067/160237853_ZKdgf-M-1.jpg

I was about to go ape on him but decided to settle back in the seat because the Fokkin Fokkers in the big 27 were still sitting there just to piss me off. It was about this time when I realized that I had my 70-300 lens on and I had Sean Tucker in front of me wiggling his rudder in my face as if he was flipping me off without straining to open the Canopy to give me the finger. Now I have a big BIG fan on a little red biplane kicking up every bug and piece of sand and throwing it at me while I sit in the truck waiting for these pinkie killers to get clearance.

It was then when I realized what just happened

I was stuck behind an airshow waiting to happen. I jumped up and realized that I could not possible get it all in one frame, IT WAS AWESOME, they are waiting to turn on to active and I am stuck right behind an airshow...STUCK

I smiled so hard that I hurt muscles in my face.... Seriously felt my cheeks hurt at work that night! I knew I could not take a picture of the entire situation so I started shooting a panorama of the situation. I got off about 50 shots and then I shot these two

Getting cut off was a moment of pure joy.

If Henny was not so slow to start that Jeep I would have actually have made it to work on time....and I would never remember one of the greatest airshow experiences I have ever had!

Thank you Henny

I was at Coney Island beach about 20 years ago when suddenly a Harrier jet appeared out of nowhere and suddenly hovered right over the beach. It was unforgettable. Swells formed over the ocean and the sand begun to fly all-over. Things were flying all over the place (beach umbrellas, towels, sheets, etc). The aircraft performed several maneuvers that were amazing. I believe it was part of an airshow which used to visit Coney Island every summer but then stopped because sponsors could not be found. While the Blue Angels, Golden Knights and the Thunderbirds also performed at other shows, the Harrier was the most amazing.

Seeing Leo Loudenslager going into an uncontrolled spin (literally tumbling) at about 100+ ft in his Laser 200, then seeing the French Connection doing a snap-roll (duo) or Cuban 8, right after take-off, in their Cap-10's. All taking place at the Sussex Airshow in 1980.

2nd year of the Jones Beach Air Show. Friday Practice Day, At the beginning there were only a handful of people out for the practice shows. During the Thunderbird practice, one of the solo planes kinda drifted over the beach while making an accent will full afterburner. I could feel the thrust going through my chest. The sensation only lasted a few seconds, but its something I never forget.

First off, great topic Fred !!
Speaking of the Harrier Demo, I'll never forget the first time I ever saw it do a demo.
It was back in either 1972 or 1973 when I was kid and the Harrier actually did a demo
right from the parking lot at the Nassau Coliseum !!!! WOW !!!
It was an AMAZING demo to see back then, and it still is today!! :borat:
Anyone else here catch that Harrier Demo back then at the Nassau Coliseum ??

Wonder how that would go over nowadays :)

2 years ago at the Jones Beach Airshow my friend and I were playing soccer in the middle of Ocean Parkway (all the fields were closed so we just parked along the side of the road) and my friend tells me to look up...so I turn my head and was greeted by the F-22 in full afterburner. Granted..this was only the second time I had been at the airshow...but I will never forget that.

Memorial Day Weekend in NY is Magical to me, but talking about an entire weekend could take a lifetime. This is about 1 hour.

Backround-
Wanting to see Bill Reesman fly his Red Bull Mig-17, I had no idea how much impact it could really have on me. It started
when I walked up the Bill on the ramp when he arrived Monday before airshow weekend. I was talking to him about the
unknown “penny” on the T-6. After looking at my shots on one of my personal books I made, we talked about when he
used to shoot medium format photography and loved to make sure people were not in his shots. I was telling him how I
loved night photography. A few days later I was with my best friend Moose (John Musolino) and asked if it was possible to
do a flyby of the old control tower during the airshow. Bill told Moose and I that he can not put extra fuel in as per the
show, he needs to be almost empty for the routine and can not do any flybys after as he is always running low. After a
good nights rest, Bill stops by and was telling my how much he admired my shots on my website and to say I was HONORED
was the proverbial understatement of the year. This guy looks at pro's shooting airshows of his aircraft all the time and
stopped by when he was very busy and rushed prepping for an airshow to tell me how much he admired the shots on my
site. So now when we fast forward a few days,

AIRSHOW SUNDAY
He's getting ready to for airshow and starts the engines and lets it run for about 1 1/2 minute when he shuts down. I am
now really bummed as this Sexy Screaming little red flaming Mig is just eye candy for me and it seems it is not going
anywhere. I really wanted to see the burner flames as he roars down the runway again. Then I found that EVERYTHING HAS
STOPPED due to bad weather at the airshow. I now had time to go downstairs to the SheltAir FBO where my friend Lionel
always allows me to enjoy the AC and some popcorn with a fresh cup of the best coffee you ever had. I spoke with the A-
10 Demo team pilot there who told me the bad news.... NO VISIBILTIY at the beach and it looked like the airshow may be
over. At that time my very good friend Paul F Who flys the Harvard (T-6 Texan) Dazzlin Deb calls me to tell me that he is
going to do three flybys along with the American Airpower Museum’s T-6 flown by Ryan to keep the crowd at the Museum
going. He asked me if there was anything I needed and replyed asking him to dip the wing for me. As always, Paul Smiled as
I could see it thru the phone.

Paul F. and his Harvard

Ryan and the AAM's T-6

Now that the passes were done, I see Bill getting into his Parashoot in RECORD TIME and he Started the Mig and was
starting to taxi in like 30 seconds.... He turns on to the active and does a nice rolling start and lays on the burner and he is
gone leaving the earth quivering into submission. Man that thing is LOUD!
http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/546316512_QHiJW-L-1.jpg

After a while at Jones Beach, Bill comes back and starts his downwind. As I broke my other lens earlier during the airshow
and my best friend Moose had lent me his Canon 70-200 2.8L $1300.00 lens (LOT OF LOVE THERE as my cheap lens is only
worth about $130!) I could not wait for Bill to give me a great smoky touchdown shot as he says he PLANTS the aircraft
hard to kill 10kts immediately.......THEN HE DOES IT!

http://www.longislandwallpapers.com/photos/546316924_3WtMh-L-1.jpg
(look at how many people are watching....and is he doing this for me????)

HOLY CRAP, I COULD NOT BELEVE IT....THE NEXT DAY I still could not believe it, and still today can not. I must have
taken about 30 shots of the flyby and EVERY shot was CRYSTAL CLEAR! Mooses lens, My 40D camera THE PLANE!!!! My
True love will always be big round motors and the air-cooled redundancy of being able to loose a cylinder and still get the
pilot home. Hearing a cylinder fire, then 3 then 6 and then feeling the shutter of the rpms as all 9 cylinders roars to takeoff
power of a T-6/SNJ/Harvard is just music to my ears...but the Mig is just a screamer….but only until the burners are lit, the
it SHAKES THE WORLD. This is just 1 hour of a weekend that will be forever etched in my memory. Great friends and their
awesome toys! I still shake my head in disbelief.

There are a million more stories of big round motors and Magic from this weekend alone, but this stuff only happens at the
AAM. I do not write often as I am not good with words....but you can always check my website for my many fun pictures
of the adventures that Paul, Moose, Larry, Gary, Jim, Chris, Scott, Frank, Fred ...... and my new friend Bill Reesman take me
on.

Most of my 2004 season would be considered magical... got to fly in the lead position with the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, got to fly with Dan McCue when he owned an L-39 Albatross, and to top it off, a CF-18! I was also invited to fly with the Red Baron Squadron that year but it never happened... it did happen at the start of my 2005 season.
