My aviation photography was first inspired by Chris Sheldon. As I got more into it, random shooters became celebrities to me. Jason Taperell and Ryan C. Umphries became my favorites, as I knew that every photo of theirs, even their basic shots, were going to have beautiful color and outstanding quality.

It's been a while, but I've finally found a shooter whose full collection is enjoyable to me in Randall Johnson (http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?photographersearch=Randall%20Johnson&distinct_entry=true). Strong composition results on a regular basis, crisp, colorful, well-exposed. As I said above, even his normal shots are a pleasure to view. Many of his shots are uploaded at the larger 1200 or 1600 width, which makes those especially high-quality shots fun to look at.

I am friends with Randall. He is a FE ground supervisor in Vegas and fellow Nikonian and good dude. He loves to shoot departures and has really pushed it finding new spots in LAS to get rotations. In fact he was part of the only police encounter in LAS when he and Dave Budd were shooting off of Tropicana I think and of course someone called it in. If I remember right Dave was quite pissed as the officer actually asked them for ID and did the drill. I think he also asked to see what was on the CF cards but it was professional and he left. I actually shot with Randall at JFK when he came to shoot and it was when he told me to dump my zoom for the 300 prime with a 1.4TC. Great advice from a hell of a photog.
