NJ gov off to a strong start; some say too strong

There's not a lot that's small about New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. He is a big man with a big personality and a big problem - namely, closing a nearly $11 billion deficit in a state whose residents carry the biggest property-tax burden in the country.

He got elected in November on a promise to make government smaller. And the straightforward - some would say in-your-face - way he is doing it is getting noticed.

Dubbed "Gov. Wrecking Ball" by one columnist, the Republican has wasted no time trying to break lawmakers' "addiction to spending" and tearing down the political establishment that has pushed New Jersey's property taxes to an average of $7,300 per household.

I wish him luck, he inherited almost a bad a mess as Meg Whitman might in CA. Horrid. It's so bad they are almost asking you to move somewhere else. How can you survive in that state?

Gotta feel bad for the teachers though, half of them at my school wont have a job at the end of this year. Its a shame to see such good people be penalized for whats going on.

Yea MSNBC was stroking that today by having one of the teachers on slagging Christie. Well much like the left likes to blame Bush don't forget Christie inherited a mess and unless NJ wants to end up like CA they better take the cuts and deal with them. Nobody want's parks closed, transportation cut or schools budgets cut but unless people want to pony up in the tax department you need to do it.

That's exactly right Nick. Everything needs to be paid for... either we need less spending or higher taxes. Voters have been led to believe there is a "third way" in each and every instance, where there is all gain and no pain...

Exactly! Politicians are afraid to do either, raise taxes, the voters complain, cut services, the voters complain.

Both sides are going to have to lock themselves in a room, & do what is best for the country.
