I grew up in College Point and remember the Flushing Airport as a place we kids loved visiting. I also remember that there was an Army Post across the street from the airport for a while. I guess it was during the Korean War and was an anti-aircraft battery but I don't know that for sure. Does anyone know about this Army Post? When it was there, what unit it was, how long it was there, etc.

When the Army Post was there I lived on 127th Street and 22nd Avenue, across the street from the big chimney at Kleinert's factory, where my mother sewed dress shields.

Thanks,

I grew up in College Point as well and would love to learn more about this. I know a man who once did an article on NYCA about Flushing Airport. I wonder if he knows anything.

Please ask him about this!

Where did you live in the Point? When? I lived on 127 & 22 and 123 and 21.

Thanks,
Rich

CPB, that was called 122nd Street when I lived there. I was born in Flushing Hospital in 1944 and went to St. Fidelis from 1st grade on. Went to PS 29 for kindergarten and loved the toys that they had there! I moved out of College Point in 1964 but my parents stayed there until 1972.

I grew up in flushing and remember spending many summer evenings as a kid going to Adventures Inn and then watching planes at the airport in the early 70's

Yes, I loved Adventurer's Inn also. It always seemed to be busy. I wonder why it closed?

It burned to the ground, probably as an insurance job, around 1989.
