This is pretty scary. 12 dead including the gunman, an Army Major. 2 others in custody. Lots of questions.
Over 30 wounded and saw footage of civilian medevac copters arriving at area hospitals with victims.

There are a couple of tidbits for thought. There was a high brass official on base reportedly making anti semetic remarks yesterday. Another tid bit, the one of two gunmen accounted for is a Major named Malik Nadal Hasan. I have two very good friends who I dormed with at school stationed there and I have yet to hear from them either way.

Reportedly the phone lines are a mess and they said try texting or emails. Also Base on lockdown. I hope you find your
friends save and sound.

Wow, big news, very, very tragic. It's sad to think that those who work alongside you, or who you think you know/trust to be stable (especially in this case with it being a doctor and Major) could be time-bombs waiting to explode.

Ft. Hood is like the Army Mecca. It is 1/2 between Austin and Waco and is a city for the sole fact that there are probably close to 80,000 people there (between soldiers, families and civilians supporting the base).

I used to fly into and out of Robert Gray AAF (It's the airfield on Ft. Hood) all the time in the T-1A, but never full stopped there (just did a bunch of visual/radar patterns). I remember them having a fairly good looking pool (at least from the air) and some of the base housing looking like it had recently been built looking fairly modern, and that departure is on 120.07!

It has alot to do with it because if you read reports coming out he had been heard to make some race/religion sentiments known over the last 24 hours and Obama is working hard to keep that hush hush. So, in the grand scheme of things, as things play out it may very well play a roll. Now instead of trying to start 12 year old controversy on a website why dont you contribute somthing more respectful for fallen brothers in Texas.

Next note, both of my friends are safe and sound. I heard from them after mindnight their time when the total lock down ended. Kileen, Texas (An Austin Suburb) near the base is a total mess. God bless.

Please remember Ryan that you need to provide sources for things you post. I would like to see one and no matter what is said or not said it doesn't justify what this person did.

As requested >http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,572986,00.html

And I totally agree with you Nick, no justification for the actions at all. It is disgusting on many levels. It was a real horror show there as the events happened. I have two friends from high school who are stationed there and one was next door to the building where the events took place when they did take place.

<<U.S. intelligence agencies were aware months ago that Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan was attempting to make contact with people associated with al Qaeda, two American officials briefed on classified material in the case told ABC News.

Army knew suspected Fort Hood gunman had contact with al Qaeda recruiter.

According to the officials, the Army was informed of Hasan's contact, but it is unclear what, if anything, the Army did in response. >>.

Days later and hand wringers just don't know why he did what did.....gee whiz, what could've been his motivation?

Instead the 5th column in the US is searching for veiled justifications.

The facts don't matter...only political correctness...

<< Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the gunman who killed 13 at America's Fort Hood military base, once gave a lecture to other doctors in which he said non-believers should be beheaded and have boiling oil poured down their throats.

He also told colleagues at America's top military hospital that non-Muslims were infidels condemned to hell who should be set on fire. The outburst came during an hour-long talk Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, gave on the Koran in front of dozens of other doctors at Walter Reed Army Medical Centre in Washington DC, where he worked for six years before arriving at Fort Hood in July.

Colleagues had expected a discussion on a medical issue but were instead given an extremist interpretation of the Koran, which Hasan appeared to believe.>>
