OK, so my 20D has been acting up. It wont catch focus in autofocus mode.

A resolution seems to be to click the On/off button in the battery pack and it works fine.
Batteries are fully charged.

I have only used it with the 17-85 IS lens lately, so I will have to try to see if this occurs with the 100-400 (to rule out if its a lens or camera issue).

I know it could be many things but whats my question.....

a) Who would you trust locally to get a fix estimate and
b) How much would you consider on the repair, if its a camera body issue, before saying screw it, I need a new body

(I can buy a new body, but considering a new car and house improvements, its not tops on the list.)

i had a similar issue with my D70 and 80-400mm VR lens. i took it to Photo Tech in the city, turns out it was the focusing ring inside the lens. i usually only take my camera there to get the sensor cleaned. they gave me an estimate on the work the day after i dropped it off and because i was still planning on going to reno, did the work for me in two days (to make my deadline on departing NY) at no extra cost. do i trust them? YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

not entirely sure if this is pertinent to your issue, but I seemed to have a similar problem with a couple of my new lenses. If not, it's an interesting article nontheless.
