President Obama is coming in tomorrow to JFK. I read anytime after 1PM. He will then take Marine 1 to New Jersey where it will land
at the PNC Bank Arts Center for a fund raiser then back on Marine 1 about 7PM to the WS Heliport and motorcade uptown to the NY Hilton to address the NAACPs 100th anniversary convention. Then back to JFK around 9PM.

MEDIA ADVISORY

Local Airspace Restrictions for VIP Visit to New York City

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is placing a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) on the airspace surrounding New York City to accommodate a VIP visit on Thursday, July 16.

The restrictions will encompass the New York area Class B airspace. The Class B airspace forms a 20 nautical mile ring around John F. Kennedy International, LaGuardia and Liberty Newark International Airports.

FAA requests that you mention the restrictions on your news broadcasts as a public service to help make local pilots aware of the restrictions.

Following are some general guidelines for the TFR, however, all aircraft operators should check FAA’s Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS) frequently for possible changes. All FAA NOTAMS are published on our website at www.faa.gov (http://www.faa.gov).

Only approved law enforcement, military, air ambulance and regularly scheduled commercial passenger and cargo carriers will be allowed to operate within the airspace during the restrictions.

Other pilots may be able to transit the area but only with approval from the appropriate FAA Air Traffic Control facility.

All aircraft must be on an active flight plan and transmit a discrete transponder code assigned by FAA air traffic control and must remain in two-way radio communications with ATC.

The following operations are not authorized within this TFR: flight training, practice instrument approaches, aerobatic flight, glider operations, parachute operations, ultralight, hang gliding, balloon operations, agriculture/crop dusting, animal population control flight operations, banner towing operations, model aircraft operations, model rocketry, and unmanned aircraft systems (UAS).

"it" can refer to 2 things. sex or Air Force One.

Anyone else but me see the waste and the needless interruption this causes using JFK??? Why can't he go into McGuire and take Marine One to PNC from there?

He's in Manhattan after PNC, so it ends up being a longer trip down to McGuire, Secret Service probably want to keep closer to AF1.

Well you can catch AF1 but you cant catch sex. You CAN catch something from sex though. :)

Nah you're the only one.
I think one of the reasons he's using JFK is that he wants to visit the runway turtles.

They were perceived as a threat and have been eliminated by the Secret Service.

Due to VIP MOVEMENT, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving John F Kennedy International Airport, New York, NY (JFK). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 49 minutes.

I saw the VC-25 for the first time a few months after it was delivered parked under the tower at EWR. I also remember President Clinton coming to South Brunswick in 2000, and he used TTN, although I'm pretty sure he used the C-9 that day. McGuire is much easier to get to the Shore, but I'm sure JFK is in this trip is just because the Secret Service has advanced the place and has all the procedures and choreography ready.

Offhand, for this week's Presidential trip, I know they used Selfridge for the Michigan stop - did they use Scott or Lambert for the St. Louis part?

I was wondering why I saw Chinooks and Sea Kings (?) doing practice runs over the Narrows yesterday. It looked like they were lifting off from around the Liberty Science Center then north to the tip of Manhattan then back. I saw them from Red Hook so my coordinates may not be exact.

So I head out to JFK this afternoon, looking to catch AF1. I get to my favorite spot for their normal approach, crank up the scanner, and settle in to wait. Around 2:10, I hear them check in on approach so I get ready. A few vectors, a couple of altitude changes, and I hear Approach say "Air Force 1, turn left to heading xxx, intercept the localizer Runway 31 Right". So there I was, with no chance to get in a good spot for a 31R arrival

So I ended up with a few distant, hazy shots...

I took a lap around JFK and discovered they were parked in a different spot as well:

Not the shots I was hoping for, I guess I'll have to try it again next time.

As to the delays caused by the arrival, there was only about 10 minutes between the last arrival prior to AF1 and the first after they landed. There may have been additional delays with people being vectored around, but given JFK isn't overly busy at that time of the afternoon, it wasn't bad.

You guys are too much the perfectionists :) I think the shots are very cool especially the head on ones!!!

The second shot looks pretty good to me Moose. I was surprised as you that AF1 didn't land on 31L but I guess that the C-17 parked over by the triple hangars gave to a possible clue of which runway it would land. Don't worry Moose, the UN general assembly week will be here in no time.

Actually Sea Knights and VH-3Ds (military version of the Sea King). I have at times in the past seen Super Stallions replace the Sea Knights!! THat is very cool.
Usually the Marine ships come in a day or two prior to a visit to do practice runs.

If you want to see the holding patterns being used for commercial aircraft en route to Kennedy when President Obama departed, check out the JFK Passur AirportMonitor. Use today's date at 21 hour 21 minute. Pretty interesting.

Any idea when the C-17 left? I saw something large over my house around midnight, didn't sound like a 747.

The one at Newark attempted to leave around 8 but got out a little after 9
