Just booked a fully refundable stay (two nights) at the Hilton Garden Inn at PAE. Anyone else going to be in the area for the big day? (other than Jeremy, of course!) :-)

You'll need it....sources say it's not flying this month.

I have heard from two credible sources that it isn't flying this month and that it's flying on June 30th. It could go either way. Flightblogger, among others, is saying 6/30 and that this was confirmed from Boeing. The other sources don't have Boeing confirmation, but don't have reason to make it up either.
Until I see Boeing pull a press release I'm not holding my breath.
Since they both conflict I haven't requested any time off work yet - put it that way.

And yet you don't cite any?

Allow me: http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/flightblogger/2009/06/final-path-to-787-first-flight.html. Jon has been dead-on with this project for some time now. I'll go with his word. And even if she doesn't fly, oh well. I always enjoy visiting the Seattle area.

The bird's on the flight line. She's headed for the skies.

Just a matter of when

Of course it's a matter of when. I, however, remain optimistic. I mean, we're in the final stages here. We're so used to hearing Boeing delay the project that no one believes the damn thing will ever fly.

Boeing will be making a 787 announcement made at Paris this afternoon, possibly confirming the first flight date.

Chris I don't cite inside sources....Just stated what I was sent...there's really no need to get snarky is there?

Seattle PI has referenced Jon's date, June 30: http://blog.seattlepi.com/aerospace/archives/171323.asp

Boeing commercial airplanes unit head Scott Carson: "...capable of Flying Today..." and "...will definitely fly this month."

Tom, I categorically reject your "internal sources", especially when the boss himself confirms the rumor.

Chris I'm glad to see you can use a search engine.... I simply stated what I was sent from reliable sources who have been greatly benefical in the past. That's called sharing information...not trying to prove you wrong or anyone wrong. If I could post the emails I would but like others on this site the information that's provided is from internal sources and those folks would probably lose their jobs.

I have to agree with Chris that the 30th is looking more promising. But I also have received emails saying that it won't happen too. Since the date has broken onto the net now in a bigger way I haven't heard from any of my previous sources. Boeing is shying away from agreeing to the date publicly still.

I provided a more optimistic take on the program's status rather than flatly stating it "wouldn't fly" without backing up that assertion. Frankly, neither of us are right or wrong until the wheels are in the wheelwell.

You have your sources, the rest of humanity has theirs. If I and others want to take a risk in trying to witness a much-anticipated event in aviation history, that's our prerogative. End of debate.

Never said you couldn't or shouldn't take the risk, just made a statement, and as you said visiting the Seattle area is always nice. People are allowed to make statements even if they disagree with yours Chris. I'll make a point of not sharing information anymore with the members of this site...it just makes life alot easier.

I never said you weren't eligible to interject your point of view into the discussion. However, providing an alternate point of view (and evidence/sources to support it) does not equate to me trying to somehow put a muzzle on your viewpoint.

Get caught up in work for a couple weeks and miss a lot of goings on. I plan on being there, both at PAE for take off and BFI for landing. How often does one get a chance to see the first flight of a new line of aircraft? I have an understanding with my manager where I may only be able to give him a few hours notice I won't be at work due to the flight. Luckily everyone I work with knows I am an Airplane Geek and doesn't think twice about me missing a day.

As for photos, I plan on having my camera out and shooting a lot, but will have to defer to Jeremy's photos. He has a definte knack for taking amazing shots!
