I recently spoke to a sailor aboard the USS Iwo Jima here in NYC for Fleet Week. He claims that the USMC Harrier aircraft on display is larger than the Harrier on permanent display on the flight deck of the Intrepid Museum. While I know that there are variations of this jet, I don't think that they were built in different sizes. Was his information incorrect? I believe that all the Harrier aircraft used by the USMC were manufactured here in the USA by McDonnell Douglas near Long Beach. I also believe that due to technical problems, they are no longer being built for the Marine Corps. When was the last Harrier built? I once saw a Harrier perform about 20 years ago off the Coney Island shore and it was very exciting to see.

The Harrier on the Intrepid is an 'A' model. All active-dute marine Harriers now are 'B' models.
