Congressional Democrats, dissatisfied with President Obama's lack of a detailed plan to shut down the Guantanamo Bay prison, yesterday rejected his request for $80 million to transfer the 240 detainees still held there, a high-profile rebuke to Obama, who has pledged to close the facility within a year of taking office.

Harry Reid, the Senate's top Democrat, said he agreed with Obama on closing Guantanamo because it stirs anger among violent Islamic extremists and "makes us less safe." But he warned yesterday that Democrats, who control both houses of Congress, will not act "without a comprehensive, responsible plan from the president. We will never allow terrorists to be released into the United States."

Gotta love the hypocrisy. A lot of these jerks were all for shutting it down. Where did they think we were going to put these animals?

I would bet/assume that they expected to just release these people. They are victims of America, remember?

I think they realized that the reality is you can't shut it down since we don't want them here, our allies don't want them...so what do you do with them? Nothing! You need to keep Gitmo there to deal with it. Same thing with the Tribunals that are starting back up, when you get down to it we have very few options on dealing with these people.
