Hostages have been taken by an armed man on a CanJet plane at Montego Bay while boarding for a flight to Halifax.

Apparently all but two passengers and five crewmembers have been released. Shots have been fired but no injuries have been reported. There is no word on the gunman's demands.

"A "mentally challenged youngster" boarded the plane in Montego Bay and demanded to be flown to Cuba, Jamaican Information Minister Daryl Vaz told CNN." ( http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090420/ap_ ... e_hijacked (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090420/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/cb_jamaica_airplane_hijacked) )
Just strange how this still happens. I'm interested to know why he wants it flown to Cuba?
I hope all ends well and the passengers and crew return safely.

Matt interesting information! The string of hijackings from 1968 to 1971 is rather impressive, if that's the right word for it. Certainly shows the lack of security back in those days and how things have improved since.
