The new Sigma 200-500 f/2.8 APO EX DG Ultra-Telephoto Zoom Lens is now available for Nikon, Canon and Sigma mounts. It weighs 50 lbs, is painted military green, and looks just like a SAM launcher. What could go wrong?

This is the first lens to offer f/2.8 at 500mm according to Sigma. It uses its own dedicated li-ion battery to power the focusing motors, and it comes with an "attachment" that delivers 400-1000mm at f/5.6. Oh, and it lists for $38,000, but you can get one on Amazon for a bargain basement $28,999.

Edit: B&H sells it for only $22,049, or "Lease for as low as $761/mo."

I think the price to me was more overwhelming then the size of the lens, good lord. Looks like you can get a decent work out as well with it. The price is simply unreal though...my god.

That cost almost as much as a semester at college....

i wonder if that would work with on of those bush-hawk shoulder stock contraptions....just to round out the look. :borat:

You'd probably have to mount it on the back of a HMMWV to round out the look. :P

Wow what a lens, but you'd need tripod to make best use of it.

Exactly 6 years when Concorde was flying if i had the money to buy one of these lenses i could have got even better photos than i had got.

This lens would also be great to take photos of shuttle launches at KSC.
