Somali Pirates Hijack Ship, Seize 20 Americans

Somali pirates on Wednesday hijacked a U.S.-flagged cargo ship with 20 American crew members aboard, FOX News has learned.

The 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya at the time it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk.

Deathwish, anyone?

This ship is part of the USSM fleet and the U.S. Maritime Security Program so these pirates I don't think will be of this Earth for much longer....

yeah they picked a bad target this time...these guys are all trained to deal with things like this. I love it though the line about one in custodary and the rest are reported to be in the water is awesome!

Turns out the pirates still have the captain. Negotiations are under way.

Ok this is getting ridiculous now...

Our military needs to step in, this is free target practice!

If not for the one good guy and millions of dollars worth of cargo on the ship, this would be a good idea.

Yeah lets shoot up the place while the Capt. is in custody of the Pirates...Great logic...

I meant prior to taking of a US ship & captain...

When this was an issue, a year ago...

Captain Phillips was freed today after Navy snipers killed three of the pirates holding him hostage:

Man that's has to be awesome, 3 shooters...targetting 3 targets at once...

As long as the captain is safe...

I wonder what round was used, at what distance...

I was pretty upset that we hadn't taken action yet, and it seemed that we were appeasing and legitimizing these guys. So happy that this man is safe and the our teams took them out the way they did.

Italy, who also has a ship being held hostage, said they were "marveled" at the American efforts to save one man, and asked if we could do the same for them. :)

AMERICA! F YEAH!

I'm not surprised by Italy's resonse espeically when their PM told their own victims of the earthquake to basically "Chill out." Just show's Europe's continued lackadaisical response to world affairs.

Seals.

3 headshots @ 25-30 yards in 6 foot seas.

Pretty impressive...

M24A2 rifle........................................$1500
.308 FMJ round....................................$7
headshot at 50-100 yards at sea..............priceless!

i doubt they used anything bigger than the .308 FMJ, anything bigger would be totally unnecessary. at that range the .308 would have enough inertia to remove a limb if the shot were placed right.

yeah I was thinking 7.62 as well...

I didn't realize how close they were though...

would have been sweet if they did that from a mile away with a .50 cal though...

But how did they see inside the enclosed lifeboat? Thermal Scopes?

I read that one was visible through a window, but there was no explanation on how they saw the others, or how they knew the pirates were pointing an AK into the hostage's back. Maybe thermal scopes, but then how would they know which ones were the bad guys? For all we know these SEALs may have been cyborgs with x-ray vision.

I'm sure that determining who is who through thermals would be easy. Thin bald guys with AKs.....MIGHT be the pirates. ;)

I prefer my cyborg theory.

I heard two were exposed with heads sticking up through the hatch and the other through a window. When all three were lined up, green light was given.

In case you were wondering what the pirates looked like when they still had heads:

I, for one, like the no pants, unlaced Timbs look. I think I'm going to try that at the bar tonight.
