Nassau police detectives are investigating a report by a man who said someone took his car keys from a valet parking station and stole the 2008 Mercedes Benz while he ate dinner at a Manhasset restaurant Saturday night.
The victim told the police he had left a second set of keys, to a 2003 Porsche, inside the Mercedes while he ate dinner at Pearl East Restaurant, 119 Northern Blvd.
When the victim called his wife at home she told him that the Porsche had also been stolen from their driveway, he told the police.
"Detectives believe that the same individuals stole both cars and that the suspects utilized the GPS in the Mercedes to locate the victim's address and the second auto," a Sunday police report said.
Detectives might believe both cars were stolen, but I believe this is a pretty good attempt at an insurance fraud scheme.
