I heard about it on BBC News and was planning to go to London to take photos of it against the Houses of Parliament, but its cloudy and raining in London so we will not see the moon today.

Ugh, out here it all overcast.
Goodluck with exposure if you try it today. Everytime I try to shoot a moon rise, the moon is always blown out :(

That's because you have to shoot it like what it is - reflected sunlight. Here's a handy Moon Exposure Calculator (http://www.adidap.com/2006/12/06/moon-exposure-calculator/) that I find helpful. For instance, with a full Moon in mid-sky, using ISO 100 and an aperture of f/7.1, you should use a shutter speed of 1/200. In actual practice, I bracket my shots, but generally use faster shutter speeds. If you let the camera meter your shot, the big, dark sky fools it into thinking you need more light, and consequently, you blow out the moon.

I took some shots just after sunset, probably won't get to process until later tonight, but here's an example from back in January:

ISO 100
Aperture f/7.1
Shutter 1/400
At that kind of shutter speed, I can hand-hold the 100-400 with the IS turned on.

My 70-200mm can't get the moon that big. The best I could manage:

I feel gutted as we never got that in London, after my last post i looked out side and it was still cloudy and raining............ :(

Your photo are stunning :), next time I go to London on a full-ish moon and clear sky i'll use that moon calculator as normaly my moon comes out like white circle in the sky and not what my eyes see (which is the same as your photos).
