The FAA announced yesterday that they will auction slots at JFK, LaGuardia and Newark airports on Dec. 29th, despite hard line opposition from the Port Authority and a decree from the General Accounting Office that the auction might be illegal.
Here is the FAA's web page detailing the plan: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/hea ... _auctions/ (http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/aep/ny_auctions/)
This PDF is particularly interesting and details the process: http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/hea ... cation.pdf (http://www.faa.gov/about/office_org/headquarters_offices/aep/ny_auctions/media/limited_slot_allocation.pdf)
