A TSA screener at EWR was caught stealing high value items and selling them on eBay. He worked behind the counter screening checked bags.

On the plus side, he does have great feedack:

If the TSA didn't steal it, the baggage guys would have taken it (or at least smashed it into bits)...hell, times are tough, maybe even the pilots are rummaging through bags these days! :)

Definately a crime of oppurtunity. Carry on your valubles and put your socks and underwear in your checked stuff.

Your links don't work because it is an old story. Have you joined the FlyerTalk whiners board yet?

We run our own stings and are the first to fire and prosecute offenders. There are a lot more ramp rats who have a better opportunity to grab your stuff than a TSA Officer.

Bail set at $100,000 for airport baggage screener
October 8, 2008

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) _ Bail has been set at $100,000 for a Newark Liberty Airport baggage screener charged with stealing items from passenger luggage.

Pythias Brown, 48, of Maplewood, faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted and termination from his job with the Transportation Security Administration.

Michael Drewniak, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Newark, said the bail is unsecured and the bond will be co-signed by Brown's fianc Dee. The initial appearance hearing was held Wednesday. A plea will not be entered until later in the process. Brown is accused of stealing more than 100 items from luggage being screened by the Transportation Security Administration, including cameras, laptops, cell phones, GPS devices and MP3 players.

Lara Uselding, a TSA spokeswoman, said 465 transportation security officers have been terminated for theft since May 1, 2003, or 0.4 percent of those employed by the agency.

Brown was arrested after allegedly seeking to sell a stolen CNN camera on eBay and faces a single count of theft from a common carrier. Uselding says federal investigators placed the winning bid and recovered the stolen property at his home.

Brown worked behind the ticket counter where checked bags are screened. He is currently on administrative leave and the TSA will be pursuing his termination, according to Uselding. A message seeking comment from Assistant Federal Public Defender K. Anthony Thomas, who is representing Brown, was not immediately returned.

That's right, blame the victims.

A week old is not that old, right? Interestingly though, since you seem to be so up on all the news as it relates to your employer, you'd know its only week old news

As for "flyertalk whiners", never been there. I don't scour the internet looking for blurbs about my employer, in a rush to defend them at all cost.

That is always good to know.

In the news business a week is a lifetime. I knew all about it and the idiot deserves all he gets.

Well you would fit right in. Part of my job is to keep aware including what is going on in the interwebs.

A lifetime. Ah, yes. I see how quickly Palin has sunk into history. Come on now. let's be serious.

He deserves what he gets? Great, we are in agreement. But do yourself a favor and stop defending your organization as a whole.

That is not how you get good PR, its just damage control. Most of your posts is defensive. We all have bad apples and acknowledging that instead of defending goes a long way.

Well you would fit right in.

I don't believe I was whining, was I? I guess one must take personal jabs when they have nothing else constructive to say?

Lighten up. I'll keep you abreast of my last TSA experience. I think you guys are doing a great job! :borat:

Well Mario he may not understand your humor. You did in your original post write this

I was wondering what happened to my "confiscated items"

So one would be inclined to defend an org he works for as a whole. Nothing wrong with it.

That's right, blame the victims.

Well your an idiot if you put anything valuable in your checked bag. Funny John, Tommy came right out and said he blames the victims for putting valuables in a checked bag, no reference to that? Hmmmmm.

This is true. Therefore, I will work tirelessly, everyday, to make sure my posts are more understandable.

Well, of course, that is because there is a left-wing faction that is out to twist and turn your words, Nick.

Two diiferent things, Palin is todays news until the election then she will probably fade away. She may be hot as long as she doesn't open her mouth. I think McCain made a mistake. It is too far of a jump into the big leagues. She may have done a lot in Alaska but the DC types will chew her up. I wish her luck though.

I defend the generalizations.

I acknowledged this idiot deserves what he gets while you generalize and can't get past the bad apple. .04% of our workforce have had problems and they were dealt with. Put that against any other agency and it is below or on par. Not a excuse, just reality.
