Thousands of holidaymakers could be left stranded after Britain's third largest tour operator goes into administration.

XL Leisure Group blamed the move on volatile fuel prices and the economic downturn.

The group owned a number of companies including XL Airways.

All flights have been cancelled and customers advised not to go to the airport.

I see XL and I automatically think of Laughlin AFB... Our base "ident" is XL and it is painted on all of our tails....

Unreal....I've never seen so many airlines go under in such a short period of time. The economy in Europe is really taking it on the chin the last few months. Things are bleak boys and girls...

I got an email from my Mom in the UK this morning - a huge uproar over this there - she was saying that people were already boarded on flights at various airports, minutes from push back and hauled off the planes. To top it all, there was a fire in the Channel Tunnel between England and France so people couldn't get back by train.
