Hi,

I was wondering if someone is at LGA on 30th of August. I am flying there for a day of spotting.

I've read that runway 04/22 was closed last weekend. Will it be the case next weekend, too?

Is spotting from inside the central terminal building still possible?

Thank you for the information.

In the CTB, you can get a great view from concorse A. where Air Canada, JetBlue and Continental parks at behind the check ins at Concorse A, you will see a bar and around it has a great view of the gates runway 13-31.. But I wouldnt recommend taking photos at the terminals.. If runways 4-22 are closed, there is a board walk past the Delta terminal where the water is at, you can walk towards the second pedestrian Bridge or you can stand against the railing to catch either runway 13 departures or runway 31 arrivals. Youll get great shots from there with a 300 or 400mm lens..

The problem is that I only have a 200mm lense with me....so the broadwalk makes only sense if they land on the 31 according to the spotting guide. Than I can go to the spotting site C in the map.

There is nothing wrong with a 200mm from the marina, a 300 or better will get a tight shot but a 200 will be filled with anything around the size of a 737 give or take. This is the full frame image (cropped to fit here, for obvious reasons).

ok great. Hope to see you there.

Still no information if 04/22 will be closed?

Is there a way to get to plane view park by foot or public transport from the terminal? I don't want to rent a car.

Planeview Park is walkable from the terminal, although it's a longish walk (a little over a mile). The street exiting the Central Terminal is 94th St. It has a sidewalk that will let you walk over the Grand Central Parkway. When you get to Ditmars Blvd, turn left. When you get to 86th St, Ditmars Blvd makes a sharp turn...that's where Planeview Park is.

The M60, Q48, and Q33 busses all run near Planeview Park on the way out of the airport, but it's probably faster to walk.

hmmm....if it's shardy weather and they're still sneaking them in on 4 I may just have to come out....hurraaaaaaaaay vapor!

As Adam said, it is walkable, or a short bus ride. See Spot A on this map for detail...

Just got the construction update e-mail from the Port. The plan for LGA for Sat 8-30 is to close 4-22 from 0000 lcl to 1500 lcl. Based on the forecasted SW winds will probably be up and down 31 till 1500 then land 22 depart 31.

Hope this helps a little?

Well I assume the heavy rain overnight caused the Port to cancel the construction, and the wind direction ended up being different than forecast, so as of 1400 lcl LGA has been in the land 22 depart 13 (Flushing Climb) config all day so far.

Cheers

Yes the plan did not work out that good due to the runway configuration. But anyway I cut get quite a number of descent shots out of the terminal building and I was not even bothered by safety personal. The windows were clean, too as a woman was cleaning them when I arrived. :D
The traffic was good, too. I got the two US special colours, the American Eagle 400th ERJ was there and A Delta Connection Comair CRJ-700 in special colours.

Thanky for your help again.
