I'll be heading over to EWR sometime around 3pm and staying until around 8 if anyone would like to join...

Has anyone ever tried spotting there before?

Hello,

I'm a recent joiner to NYC Aviation recently relocating back from Fla. This is my first post so "Hello everyone, I hope to meet many of you soon".

I'm going to try to get to EWR later today. The only location inside the airport where you can see any real expanse of runway/taxiway is at the N/NE exterior end of departure level in Terminal A. If you call the PA Police on 800-882-5474 and report that you are there, even if they come to check you out, they'll let you stay.

If circumstances allow I'll be there late afternoon.

Some things can be seen from Airtrain stations A and to a limited extent B and the (very shaky) Airtrain itself; UPS and Fedex ramps can be read off from windows to the right of Airtrain station in Terminal A.

If arrivals are from the south and you have a car the IKEA/Toys R Us parking lot is a great view. Ask permission to be there from the security personnel that patrol the area. Results have been varied and unpredictable but I have spent all day there with out a problem.

I hope this helps. Good spotting,

Denny

Hey Denny, welcome to NYCA!

I'm heading out sunday afternoon around 3 or so until around 8 to catch the later rush...one of my buddy's father worked for CO as a mechanic so supposedly he knows all the different places (parking lots i'd presume). Post up what you come up with I'm interested to see!

Hi,

Two typo corrections from last night. Index finger problems it would appear.

N571QS should be N671QS

N15149 should be N16149

I'll be very interested to know the locations your buddy's father provides and any repercussions of being at them.

Cheers,

Denny

supposedly there are a couple spots over by the cargo area where you can get a good view of 29 arrivals and departures along with 22 departures. Also, there are the car parks located under the 22's and 4's along with the lot closer to the arrival end of 22L that you can see from the turnpike. As I understand those are the best places to go and (gasp) they're not too hard on the wallet...maybe a few bucks for the day if rumor is correct. I didn't make it out today either but hopefully we can meet up sometime and do some spotting!

I'm back. Work so gets in the way of the important stuff.

Parking Lot P-6 (Old G) is $15 per day. That's the lot you refer to. I have spent time there without interference and yet on occasion I have not. It may be worth calling the PA Police number I gave in an earlier posting. I'd like to know the results thereof.

Historical note. The old 'H' which is parallel to the 22s is now closed. Parking in there was so worth the money.

Anyway, just to the west of P-6 is an access road to cargo. Go to the end and there's a great view of 22 ops. There are notices on the fence which inform you that you are not to be there.

Before you get anywhere near there make a right past Signature and there's a view at the end. It's right next to the PA Police whatever that means.

A location that I spot from is away from the airport. Riverview Park in the Ironbound in Newark. From EWR go north on 21 and turn right on Raymond Blvd just after the Hilton. Just follow the road and the park is on the right just past the Harrison Bridge. I don't get any problem using binoculars from the patrolling Essex County sheriffs. Registrations are easily read off from the park but I think a decent zoom would be needed. Not being a photographer I don't really know the requirements. I think the in-flight shots would be very good from here.

Great shots from LGA BTW.
