Yup. Whereas most airlines might charge you extra for booking a flight over the phone or at ticket offices, Spirit has now come up with the most ludicrous fee in the business: the "web convenience fee." $5 per person, each way, $10 round trip.

Tickets can still be purchased at the airport without a fee, or you can save by booking through Orbitz, whose booking fee is only $5 per reservation.

That's extremely backwards, and yes, pretty ridiculous.

Watch the airport lines grow and then they will need more agents. Brilliant !

Spirit is screwed.

They enjoyed using their 319's without paying a dime for them, charging $9 fares. Now that Airbus wants them to start paying up, they're haveing trouble finding funds.

Pretty soon they'll be in line with Aloha, Silverjet, Maxjet etc.

Remember the good old days when they had the broken down MD-80's?
