Had to drive through Holbrook today, and I saw a vision....
There is an In-N-Our Burger going up on Main Street in Holbrook.
It does have "Joe's" added to it, but it's the same color scheme, same typeface, etc...
I didn't notice when I was in Vegas, are the franchisee's allowed to add a name to the title?
...OR....
am I disillusioned and this is not the same chain?

Inn and Out isn't franchised all units are chains owned by the Snyder family. They don't license their logo, colors, anything...this is nothing more then a copy cat! This is nothing more then blasphemy and god willing they will close up the first week they are open! HOW DARE ANYONE TRY TO COPY INN AND OUT! OUTRAGOUES!

There are already lots of copy cats of the burger itself, I haven't heard of anyone using the colors and typeface though. Shake Shack in Madison Square Park is supposedly pretty close, but the line is usually over an hour long at lunchtime so I've yet to get around to trying it.

Listen zipper heads! I'll forgive you because you have not had the religious experience of having an IN-N-OUT Burger so you have NO clue of what you’re missing. So this poo pooing the Godliness of IN-N-OUT is forgiven this time…next time you will not be so lucky! There is nothing like stepping off a flight at LAX and making your first stop the IN-N-OUT on Sepulveda Blvd for a perfectly cooked Double Double! You all can have your "Joe's IN-N-OUT” I’ll stick to the original!

Iffin you disagree I challenge you to a duel using nothing more than french fries, frankfurters and hamburger patties.

Nice, whoever it was should get free burgers for a year!
In related news, I tried a new In-N-Out-style burger place called "5 Guys" in Midtown the other day. Apparently they started in DC and they have shops in College Point and Brooklyn. Burger was hand made, double patties, whatever toppings you want, not In-N-Out but quite good. Unfortunately the fries were pretty weak, and it's expensive...cheeseburger + fries + drink came to over $14.

The Midtown one isn't very glamorous either despite its pretty high profile location on 55th between 5th and 6th. Also, if you like peanuts (I don't) they have barrels of free salted and unsalted for the taking.

Hate to say it but Inn and Out is NOT exactly THE definite culinary experience in LAX that Tom makes it appear to be. And its certainly not better than All American. Its just that the jet fuel permeates through the burger seasoning and it makes the burger seem a bit better. Thats all.
In fact, $10 says that if I gave you a burger from In and Out and one from All American, you can't tell the difference.
BUT, I will further hypothesize that if you took All American and relocated it to just outside JFK, suddenly, All American would be as good, if not better, than In and Out.
Got a trip to LAX soon and we'll hit In and Out on the days that I go spotting just cause its convenient, not b/c they overprocess their cow any better than anyone else.
Want good cow? http://www.pacificdiningcar.com/ Comes recommended by a friend and I recently read another article about it. A 24 hour steakhouse in an old railroad car. I can't wait

YOU have no clue what your talking about! When it comes to Chain fast food joints Inn-N-Out is top. Yes All American is much better...and you would have seen I said that if you read this entire post ;) Pacific Dinning car is a one location joint so you can't compare, hell Bubba Burgers on my own BBQ are better then Inn-N-Out but from a chain standpoint they are the best, no question. I've enjoyed Inn-N-Out at each location that I've visited and not just the one outside LAX. Now since you have decided to $hit on the Inn-N-Out name I'll send your picture to their legal dept as well for looking into ;) LOLOL

What I find a bit funny is that fact someone can speak so passionately about something and not know how to spell it correctly!!! (*cough, cough*...IN-N-OUT, Tommy...oh, and you too, Mario! :P )
Fact of the matter is, Tommy's right. In-N-Out is divine. It's simply the best burger on the planet. I'm sure I'll never be able to find any better than those made ever-so-adeptly by LaToya, Shantelle, Javier, and the rest of the crew...
Since moving to NYC from L.A., I haven't been able to find anything quite like In-N-Out....but...I THOROUGHLY feel Five Guys is the next best thing. I go there when I'm feeling culinarily "homesick." :P
Don't worry guys, I was sure to think of you yesterday while eating my double-double and watching planes here in L.A. It was so good, I just might do it again next week!

I don't remember much from it. I ate there with a certain blonde that you might recall.
But I don't eat hamburgers outside of fast food joints. I don't think they taste good at all. I would NEVER EVER order a burger in a restaurant or a diner. If a slab of meat is that good, why would I want to hide it in between bread? I'd rather have a steak.

To add, I don't recall having any good dining experiences in LA. Myself and my girlfriend at the time took exception to each place we went to. Either there was something WRONG, or the place was overhyped and did not live up to their reputations.

OK Toolio, I had Checkers 2 weeks ago. The second time in over a year. That is the operative term. Had a grilled chicken burger and a Champ burger no mayo, pre-workout meals.
I hate fast food but if Im in a jam and I at at the 2.5 hour mark and need food, I still try to make it a healthy option regardless the joint.
(of course, I know how to cheat now. And I prefer cheating with GOOD food.   )

I have a new favorite burger place as of last night: Island Burgers and Shakes, 9th Ave and 51st St.
I'd heard a lot about it and I've tried to go there for lunch a few times, but it's a pretty small place and there's always a line out the door at lunchtime so I'd never bothered. But last night I was walking by around dinnertime and it was empty, so I went for it. Wow.
It is nothing like In-N-Out...they have 45 varieties ranging from a conventional cheeseburger to a few that are topped with au poivre sauce to the one that I got, the "Sam I Am": pesto, American cheese, ham and sliced hard boiled egg. Well seasoned thick patty, sturdy bun...it had so much flavor it didn't even need ketchup. Lettuce, pickles and red onion are served on the side so you can build it with whichever you'd like.
Notes:
- No fries. The menu even explains why...they don't have room for a fryer. They offer baked potato or chips instead. The chips were nothing special.
- All the burger varieties can be made instead with a chicken fillet they call churasco, if you'd like, and from the reviews I've read, the chicken is pretty awesome as well.
- Chocolate shake was pretty good, but was basically just melted ice cream, nothing special and a bit pricey. Hold out for the Coldstone down the block if you want ice cream.
- Price: Burgers range $7 to $10, $1.25 for chips, $3.25 for a baked potato with butter.

I tried Five Guys today, and thought it was pretty good.
A double cheeseburger with pickles, fried onions, tomoatoes, with fries and a drink cost over $10, which I thought was a little much. However, they give you a billion fries. I thought, like most "fresh" burgers, they are somewhat narrow, and with all the fresh ingredients, end up being tall, and then falling apart at your first bite.
I give it a 7.5.
