We've installed an update that produces wordy URLs for each page rather than random numbers. You do NOT need to do anything differently. Old links will continue to work. This is mainly a cosmetic modification.

For example, the News and Aircraft Visitors forum now appears as

http://nycaviation.com/forum/news-and-aircraft-visitors-f9.htmlinstead of
http://nycaviation.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9

and individual thread URLs will look like

http://nycaviation.com/forum/airlines-boost-fares-sharply-on-summer-nonstops-t12315.htmlrather than
http://nycaviation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=12315

We have tested this, but please let us know if you see anything weird in terms of site operation.

Thanks!

The "LGA Daily Report" thread fails with a 404 error, probably because of the "smart quote" apostrophe. The URL looks like this: http://nycaviation.com/forum/lga-daily-report-jan-%CA%B908-t9863s135.php

(The fact that the apostrophe ends up as %CA%B9 means it's a two-byte Unicode character and not a regular ' character.)

Also, the "Mark forums read" link on the main forum page doesn't work; it just links back to the main page without actually doing anything.

Upcoming trips link doesnt work:

your-upcoming-trips,-biz-or-fun-t4835s405.php (http://nycaviation.com/forum/your-upcoming-trips,-biz-or-fun-t4835s405.php)

From the "there's a new post" e-mail notification, the provided link in that e-mail:
http://nycaviation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=12380&p=93407&e=93407

doesn't work. It redirects to:
http://nycaviation.com/forum/new-forum-featu-descriptive-urls-t12380.html&p=93407#p93407

which is a 404 error. Changing the ampersand to a question mark works but the behind-the-scenes rewriting should probably take care of adding a ? before any query string.

I have fixed all the bugs reported above. The only one I couldn't test was the email notifications. Anyone want to give it a go? Thanks!

That's a separate issue. Looking into that now.

Just tried it now (the jump to latest post link) and it's working now.

Actually, I take that back. It works for posts with one page (or where the new post is on the first page) but not when the new post is on a later page.

Argh. Does it give a dead page or does it just lead to the first page?

It leads to the first page.

The icon to go to the first unread post does not work, it comes back with a 404 error.

Just figured I'd bring this up again, since it's still an issue. Any possibility of a solution for this?

It's still not working for me. I just got the "new post in thread" e-mail about the "JFK might be a real cluster this summer thread" and the new post is on page 2.

The e-mail contains this link (which should go directly to the new post):
viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15072&p=110705&e=110705 (http://nycaviation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=15072&p=110705&e=110705)

When I click that, I end up at:
jfk-might-be-a-real-cluster-this-summer-t15072.html-sid=931d5e580f202c510eff94aea11aeb5d#p110705 (http://nycaviation.com/forum/jfk-might-be-a-real-cluster-this-summer-t15072.html-sid=931d5e580f202c510eff94aea11aeb5d#p110705)
(which is page 1 of the thread)

Clicking the "direct to this post" link for the new post gives me this URL:
jfk-might-be-a-real-cluster-this-summer-p110705.html#p110705 (http://nycaviation.com/forum/jfk-might-be-a-real-cluster-this-summer-p110705.html#p110705)

Without knowing what's happening on the back end for the URL rewrites, it seems like it should be possible to look for a URL with a p= parameter and write it to be the "<thread title>-p<post id>" format instead of "<thread title>-t<thread id>".
