The Telectroscope at Brooklyn Heights

I visited the Telectroscope the other day at Brooklyn Heights. The line was very long but what I saw was a large screen and mirrors. Supposedly, it connects under the Atlantic to a similar model near the Tower Bridge in London. Guests can see in real-time folks waving on the other side of the Atlantic. What do you think? It looked like a machine from the Jules Verne classics. Incidentally, there is no fee for looking and nothing was being sold. Who is paying for this? I wonder.

Uh. The Earth curves, so I don't think you can see people waving 4,000 miles away. Unless I'm missing something. Which I probably am.

But seriously, it's just a TV and camera with a live feed back and forth I think.

I can get on my PC turn the web cam on connect with a friend in Australia and see him wave in real time...there's nothing special about this...they have it connected to a PC and its acting as a big camera like Phil said. Now the CIA has some cameras in space that can certainly see you wave in real time.

Not sure who's paying for it on this end, but I know there is a 1 pound fee to play on the London end.
