GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Democrat John Edwards is endorsing former rival Barack Obama, fresh signs of the party establishment embracing the likely nominee even as Hillary Rodham Clinton refuses to give up her long-shot candidacy.

Edwards was to appear with Obama in Grand Rapids, Mich., as Obama campaigns in a critical general election battleground state.

The endorsement comes the day after Clinton defeated Obama by more than 2-to-1 in West Virginia. The loss highlighted Obama's work to win over the "Hillary Democrats" — white, working-class voters who also supported Edwards in large numbers before he exited the race.

It would have helped if this had happened months ago, but now that Obama has practically secured the nomination, Edwards' endorsement won't do much good for him. It might have some effect during the general election, but still.. :?

Its was mean to rain on her parade, which it did perfectly. Don't think for a min this wasn't timed. Obama knew he wouldn't win W.V and he knew it would be by a large margin. This puts the attention back on him in a positive light and puts more pressure on her. Brilliant move IMO.

It helped Obama, since Edwards received some votes in West Virginia, also, it helped the mistake that Obama made by not giving any type of speech in West Virginia, it was a little on the insulting side for Obama to ignore West Virginia as much as he did.....
