The rotors have tip lights for visibility in formation flight - many military helicopters have the same thing.

those are meant more for use with NOD than anything else. moose, aren't they there for tanker guys to be able to see the outlines of the airplanes/helos they're fueling when on NOD? gotta love the USAF, they spring for all the bells and whistles. i'm wondering how much light there was when the pic was taken.

you'll have to go here: http://www.navy.mil/view_photos_top.asp and look through all the pages. i have no idea where it was, i was looking for H-60 pix for my screensaver when i came across it. if you're into superbugs there are some nice shots of those there as well.
