Going out tomorrow is something I've been thinking about, and temperature/light-wise the weather looks good, but the winds are forecast as E/ESE, which means we could be looking a 13s/4s day, which I don't think is worth the trip for me.

Well it looks like ymself and Barry will be coming up tommorow for some shooting. Myself, I love the 4 landings in the morning, 4 landings in the afternoon. I haven't shot 13 yet but from what I've seen some of the departures are pretty ncie from there. I'm hoping for a bunch of good landing stuff myself.

Ok, after some consideration, I'll probably be out tomorrow. I might hit up LGA for a bit, but I'd love to get JFK on the right runways. FlightAware shows Aer Lingus operating a DC-10 on flight 110 (~6:45pm listed departure) and a Qantas flight to Dubai (charter?). If anyone's interested in meeting up, PM me for my cell #.

I stopped by AI cargo today and since it was blocked off, no one was around. It had also gotten very hazy out, and wasn't the best for spotting.

I then went over to LGA, since they are up and down 22. Planeview had a lot of people, but not many spotters. Didn't see much exciting, and I left after about 20 minutes.

Met up with Joe C at Planeview, then headed down to JFK in the afternoon. Got some good shots from the Mounds, but then a brush fire or something created some smokey haze which eventually went away. Some other interesting traffic was missed as they were also using 13R for arrivals. Clouds rolled in and put an end to the day out at the Mounds. I ended up starting out at LGA early at Planeview; before long, though, I decided JFK would be more interesting and so after calling the ATIS (landing 22L/13L, departing 13R) I headed over to North Woodmere Park. Not a whole lot was going to 22L, so we were mostly taking pictures of the ospreys (I think) who had a nest atop one of the light poles.

FedEx MD-10 off 13L:

The Congo 727 was originally on the VOR 13L approach but apparently had problems; ATC would later describe him as 'lost'. He ended up doing a missed approach and coming around for 22L.

After a while, it was off to Bayswater to catch 13R departures.

The Congo 727 went back out before too long; he kept his gear down at least until out of sight, to "cool things down", as he informed tower after they mentioned the gear:

By the time Olympic went off, it seemed like it was getting hazier. Since it wasn't humid, the vapor is a good hint that there were some low clouds rolling in:

Not too long after that, the cloud cover had increased to the point that planes were gone into the clouds before they close enough to shoot. At that point, it was time to call it a day.

There was a C-17 in and out of JFK; it landed 22L while I was at Bayswater, so the shot I took is full of heat haze, and he banked early on a 13R departure, so I came away with nothing. I also caught my first DHL at JFK (767), but of course he banked early too.

Great shots guys. Not much differnt from me than Phil sicne we were in the same place most of the time. Seems I took alot more of the Osprey's than I thought which is fine since it cool to watch them do their thing.

Nice shots. I saw that El Al all white inbound whilst on exit 36 on the LIE, didn't think El Al Cargo would be in ops on Passover.

Nice shots guys and Phil the Congo 727 was a great and rare catch. And re him missing approach to 13L and getting lost I have something to add. One of my bosses listens to JFK freqs on his scanner most waking moments when home. He heard the whole thing with the Congo 727 and said they where so confused after missing approach to 13L that they headed to the ILS to 4 at LGA until ATC realized what happened and got them turned around. He also said their English was "really bad" even by JFK ATC Standards.
