If your an ol dog like me you recall going to the movies and seeing him struggle landing the damaged 747 in Airport 1975.

Both movies are full of real footage. (granted also full of incorrect specs-but it's just a movie)
Heston was a childhood hero of mine.
He had the best special effect of all time that never goes out of style- good acting.

I trust all here have seen these two movies. If not they are on your to do list!

Wow, that is a shame. I just saw Omega Man the other day, which is sort of a prequel to I Am Legend. Good film.

Wow Mike, sad news but I don't believe he has been well in many years. Those trailers are great, saw both movies several times on the big screen at my local hometown movie palace at ages 12 and 14, what great memories.

Mr. Heston seemed to excel at playing Airline Captains, in addition to the two blockbusters Mike shared he also played (very well I thought) United Captain Al Haynes in the made for TV recap of the United DC-10 crash in Iowa in 1992's "Crash Landing, The Rescue of Flight 232".

In all the movies aviation or otherwise I saw with Mr Heston starring in I always thought to describe him in one word would have to be "Class".

That class I thought was still their even in death, as he died with his wife of 64 years by his side, quite different from Young Hollywood of today !

Charltan Heston - As mentioned - Omega Man, but also Soylent Green (not a good movie, but you'll not forget it if you see it) and the original Planet of the Apes movie was quite good.

Of course there's always Ben Hur, Moses, etc...

Here is Charltan Heston (lower left) at a famous Civil Rights March on Washington in the 1960s

(shame on Michael Moore for harassing this honorable gentleman in his senior years...)

Ditto on UA232, would love to see that one. I only remember bits and pieces of Airport 75, but I do remember that Charlton Heston was a great actor in that one and other films as mentioned. Sad loss, they don't make movies with his suave nature and class act anymore...

What you need to do is check out his pre-70's flicks such as Khartoum, A Touch of Evil, Julius Caesar, El Cid and The Agony and the Ecstasy and so on. Really fantastic stuff. It shows his range from corny dialogue in The Ten Commandments to real serious **** in Touch of Evil and Planet of the Apes (mostly the beginning dialogue and the conversations he has with the other two astronauts before they're captured), a very underrated actor who I feel is either based on his '70's experience or his NRA tenure instead of his whole career.

Guess they will finally be prying the rifle out of his cold dead hand.
