Since the 772LR is now going to start operating Delta 16/17 JFK-BOM-JFK as of the beggining of April, DL has replaced the JFK-ATL-JFK leg of the flight with a 757. This leaves half a day where the 772LR would be sitting around (DAL17 comes in from BOM at 7 AM, but DAL16 does not depart until 8:30PM). Does anyone know what DL is doing with the 772LR while it is on the ground? Surely it won't be taking up a gate during the day. Are they just going to hardstand it over by T4 next to the other 767's?

It will be moved to the hardstand to sit all day. AI does the same thing with their 777.

I loved taking DL 16 from JFK to ATL...sad to see it disappear.

Doesn't that seem like such a waste of an aircraft, to sit for 12+ hours on the ground? You would think they could squeeze in a high-density domestic run ala JFK-ATL like before. I would say they could dump it on an extra transcon like JFK-LAX to compete with AA & UA with Lie-flat biz class, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have enough time to do that turn. I guess I'll have to look out for her when I'm transitting JFK in the next few weeks!

I've flown JFK-ATL on the 777 twice--once prior to flying to ICT and the other to FAY. I got upgraded on the FAY flight and it was great with the lie-flat BizElite seats and full breakfast service!
Both times I flew the segments the flights were chock full--I'd say only less than half were continuing on from India. Maybe it's more economical to keep it parked?

Maybe they're going to change the departure times?
Lots of airlines keep their a/c at the end of terminal 4 for the same reason though, I wonder if it costs to leave it there?
