The EU-US Open Skies Agreement takes effect today. Prepare for all the Heathrow action you can handle!

Interested in reading the actual treaty? Here it is, a 38 page PDF: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/Lex ... 041:EN:PDF (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2007:134:0004:0041:EN:PDF)

I'm ready! It has already started! Three US carriers commenced LHR service this past week! (DL, US, CO)

No it didn't Tommy, sorry to dissapoint all the anti US sentiment but despite PHL and LHR's infamous ATC issues it arrived about 15 mins EARLY ! :D

And here is a great shot of the first US Departure !

Open Skies (British Airways) will be adding flights from CDG to JFK.

As we get more into the Open Skies I'm sure more will come. Virgin, Lufthansa, Singapore, and others were talking about some lucrative routes.

Virgin will probably launch CDG-JFK by the end of the year, among others coming later.

Yeah, I saw an Air France 777 at Terminal 2 at LHR yesterday.

The price of fuel may cause a lot less open skies flying that most would have envisnoned had this happen a year or two ago.

For example a year or two ago several non UK type European or even Asian carriers with Heathrow slots may have wanted to fly LHR-JFK only for the prestige of serving that route knowing their flights might only be half full.

Or lets say hypothetically AF hates BA, thinks they have a better product and wants to compete on one of BA's most profitable routes for the purpose of hurting a disliked competitor. Even though AF just did this with LAX-LHR they probably want due any more of this with the price of fuel.
