Aloha Airlines filed for bankruptcy protection today for the second time in just over three years.

The state's No. 2 carrier filed for Chapter 11 reorganization with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Honolulu, listing assets and liabilities both in excess of $100 million.

Wow didn't see this coming...I wonder if this is the first round of new Chapter 11 fillings we might see?

Damn, I thought that Aloha was doing good.

Wow, Aloha took a jab at Go, wonder if it will make the court case against Go move faster.

In its filing, Aloha said it wasn't making enough money off inter-island routes because of "predatory pricing by Mesa Air Group's go! airline."

Tommy, if the price of fuel does not stop climbing I think what you will see is not so much as Chapter 11's is full shut downs of smaller, non legacy carriers. Champian, Skybus, and ATA are all candidates, and sadly I am also concerned about the future of Frontier, yesterday they announced they are selling 2 A-318's and 2 A-319's. On the regional side, even though they are one of the largest, I would not be at all surprised to see Mesa fail, as they are having HUGE internal problems, including pilots leaving (I've heard) in droves. I can assure you DL, UA, and US all continue to be very dissastified by their performance.

My two cents

Aloha announced that they are looking for a buyer for their various business segments. Looks like the end for a classic carrier may be instore.
