China Southern crew foil terrorist attack

An attempt to hijack a China Southern Airlines (Guangzhou) flight was foiled by the flight crew on Friday in the province of Xinjiang. Few details have been released regarding the incident, but Nur Bekri, the governor of Xinjiang, released a statement saying, “From what we presently know, this was an attempt to crash the plane.” He also indicated that more than one person was involved and that an investigation was under way. The crew made an emergency landing in the western city of Lanzhou before proceeding an hour later to their destination. It is believe that this was to be a terrorist attack on the upcoming Summer Games.
