From Dallas News Aviation Blog:
On Sunday, a tug struck the nose section of an American McDonnell Douglas MD-80 when it was parked at the gate at LaGuardia Airport in New York.
Anyone have info on this re: damage/consequences?

Aircraft is out of service and needs a new nose cone and some work to the skin behind the cone. Thankfully everyone is ok which is all that really matters at the end of the day.

Doesn't AA usually keep spare MD-80s at LGA? (I usually see three or four parked just west of concourse D.)

I think the ones parked over there are in mechanical checks for the most part.

The schedule usually allows for 1 spare MD80 per day that will sit on the hangar line until needed. The only time you would see more than one sitting over there during the day is on a Saturday when there is a reduced schedule and more spares.
