Sony has announced it will discontinue production of Trinitron picture tubes. They stopped selling CRT TVs and monitors in 2004, but continued making them for other manufacturers. Those are now being scrapped as well.
I don't watch much TV anymore, but as all the TVs in my house growing up were Sonys, probably 97% of my life's TV viewing has been on Trinitrons, so this development has put me in a somewhat contemplative mood. I'm all for embracing new technology, but this makes me a little bit sad. :|
